It was announced in the latest issue of Josei magazine Feel Young that Yumi Unita’s manga Bunny Drop, or Usagi Drop in Japanese, is going to get a live action adaptation.
Bunny Drop is about a man named Daikichi who, after attending his grandfather’s funeral, ends up taking care of his grandfather’s illegitimate 6 year old daughter, Rin. The first part of the manga deals with him learning how to be a parent and the second part follows Rin’s teenage years.
I have only read the first volume of Bunny Drop and I think it’s a good slice of life/parenting story. My favorite part of volume one is when Rin starts to have bed wetting problems but insists that the wetness on her sheets came from her sweating. This happens various times and I think these scenes are cute. If I had to compare this to other manga I would say it’s reminiscent of Baby and Me and Aishiteruze Baby (both very good in my opinion).
There isn’t any estimated release dates yet but I hope it gets licensed here in North America.
The first volume of Bunny Drop is available in English from Yen Press and the second volume is slated for release in September (can’t wait!).
