MLG: Avatar - The Last Airbender Edition

With the upcoming release of M. Night Shyamalan’s The Last Airbender, how could we not do an Avatar-themed MLG match? Just like the animated cartoon series, this match will pit the 4 elements against each other with each team representing their respective element: Earth, Fire, Water and Air.

If you’re unfamiliar with the animated Avatar series, here’s a breakdown of the 4 elements courtesy of The Last Airbender Wiki:

Earth Kingdom: The Fire Nation’s retired general Iroh once described the Earth Kingdom as, “Earth is the element of substance. The people of the Earth Kingdom are diverse and strong, they are persistent and enduring.” As the largest Kingdom in terms of population and land, it is an ethnically diverse nation, with wide variance in customs between different provinces and tribes. Earthbenders of the Earth Kingdom possess the geokinetic ability to manipulate earth and rock, in all its various forms. (The Last Airbender Wiki)

Fire Nation: According to Iroh, “Fire is the element of power. The people of the Fire Nation have desire and will and the energy and drive to achieve what they want.” Despite this, the recently militaristic Fire Nation has twisted their energy and drive into Firebending being fueled by rage, hate and anger. Firebending draws its power from the sun, and the first Firebenders learned their techniques from the dragons. Firebenders possess the pyrokinetic ability to create and control fire. Water Tribe: Water is the element of change. The people of the Water Tribe are capable of adapting to many things. They have a deep sense of community and love, that holds them together through anything. Unlike the Earth Kingdom and Fire Nation, the Water Tribe’s land is relatively small as the tribe is comprised of nomads. Waterbenders possess the hydrokinetic ability to control water. Air Nomads: The Air Nomads is a collective term for a nation of people who practice the discipline of Airbending. Airbending is the aerokinetic ability to control and manipulate currents of air. According to Iroh, “Air is the element of freedom. The Air Nomads detached themselves from worldly concerns and found peace and freedom. Also, they apparently had pretty good senses of humor.” (The Last Airbender Wiki)

Overview: Each team will compete in flash games using a free-for-all format where there are no game assignments so anyone can play any game they want. To win a game and thus earn a point for your team, an eligible individual must have the highest score in a match game. The team with the most number of game victories wins the whole match.

How to Enter: Take the quick quiz here to determine your element allegiance, then leave a comment indicating your bender class.

Games List: Will be posted Wednesday, June 30 at 6pm EST.

Start Date: Thursday, 7/01 12am EST
End Date: Monday, 7/05 11:59pm EST

Match Winner: The team with the most number of wins. One game will be designated as the tie-breaker in the event of a tie.

Prizes: Pins and lots of EXP. More details later.

Eligibility: In order to receive a winning pin, you must
1. Comment on this thread with your element by Wednesday, 6/30 at 6PM EST
2. Record at least one score throughout the 5-day match.
