The CW’s Supernatural is an American horror drama that has been around since 2005 and has just wrapped up its fifth season. Starring Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki as Dean and Sam Winchester, Supernatural tells the story of the dynamic duo traveling the country slaying demons, investigating ghost sightings, saving lives and, of course, saving the world.
Well, looks like the series has grabbed some attention overseas, because a Japanese anime for the series is in the works! The renowned anime production company MADHOUSE is said to be taking on the project, and it looks like Supernatural creator, Eric Kripke, will also be collaborating with the company. The anime will run a twenty-two episode season, covering episodes from season one and two of the live action.
To be released on Blu-Ray and DVD, the first two episodes will begin shipping on January 12th, 2011. Episodes three to twelve will ship on February 2nd as “Box 1.” “Box 2,” featuring episodes thirteen to twenty-two will ship on April 6th.
The animated series will not only cover episodes from the actual series but will also have new episodes with anime-only content. This project marks a milestone for anime, as it is the world’s first anime produced by a Japanese company to be based off of an overseas television drama series.
Personally, I am absolutely stoked for this! These DVD sets will definitely be going on my purchase list for next year. If you haven’t watched Supernatural, I highly recommend that you do so! It is such a good series! Action, comedy, romance and lots and lots of drama! Check out this video of funny moments from season one and two of the live action below:
