Everyone is now a mod!

Ningin has been growing really fast. I know I say that a lot, but I like saying it. One of the things that Ningin is pretty well know for is a nice and welcoming forum atmosphere. There’s lots of people here to welcome new users and answer all the questions that newbies may have. This is important because as most of you know, we’re not just an ordinary blog/news site with many different things to do around here. I’ve been relying on moderators to help make sure goodness is being done and developed a system of Nice Points to encourage good interactions among every else. However, I’m finding that it’s still not enough. Ningin is growing just too fast! My solution is to make everyone mods.

Ok that’s not quite how it works. Everyone level 3 or higher will be able to report problems in the comments like spam, harrashment, abusive language, as well as double posting, off-topic, etc. All of these need to be reported so that conversations on Ningin are both healthy and organized. And having 11 mods just doesn’t seem enough to do that.

We’ve made it really simple to do this. Simply click on the report link and look for the problem which most closely resembles what you’re trying to report. If nothing fits, just click other. That’s it! The report gets sent to a queue where one of our staff or interns will look it over and take action if necessary.

If an action is taken, you get EXP points - like lots. This is just another way we encourage a friendly and healthy environment on Ningin.

Here are some things we tell a mod to look for.

1. Double posting. Sometimes people just click the submit button too fast. It happens. Just report it and someone will remove it.

2. Off-topic posts. If you see people going off-topic in a conversation thread say, “Hey this conversation is off-topic.” You can report it if users don’t stop the off-topic conversation.

3. Spam. You’ve all seen it - random advertisement for some random website or link. It’s definitely spam if it comes from a new user with only 1 post. Report it by clicking the spam option.

4. Harassment. If you see anyone harassing another user, definitely report it right away. We don’t allow abusive or derogatory remarks on Ningin to other users.

5. Vulgar language. Most of the time we look the other way when one person says on swear word. But the policy is we don’t allow it here since we have so many young users.

6. Wrong forum category. From time to time, people will start a forum topic about anime in the music category. Not a big deal. Report it and someone will get it moved.

This is just a partial list, but Ningin doesn’t really face too many issues in our forums. If you guys find other stuff that isn’t on the list, just use the “Other” option.

I’m also going to make it so that anyone can give nice points - well anyone of a certain level. That should hopefully start tomorrow. More details on that later.
