Five students attending Xi’an Electrical Mechanical University in China were able to build a Bugatti Veyron out of 10,280 empty cigarette packs and guess what? It actually functions!

It was a project to encourage people to stop smoking. They were going to use the cigarette packs to make anti-smoking logos but the prospect of building a car with the packs was much more exciting.

The students almost got in trouble when university officials found the cigarette packs but ended up supporting them when the students explained themselves. The university gave them work space, expert advice from professors and encouraged the 2,500 students at the university to gather empty cigarette packs.

The five students were able to finish the car in time for World No Smoking Day. Everything except the steel frame, engine, break system and gearbox were made up of the packs.

See the car in action below.
