Jay Chou is more than just an idol, he is also a philanthropist. Previously donating a total of $3.8 million to aid the victims of both the Sichuan earthquake and the China flood incident, Chou is showing his grace once again by loaning a rumored $5.8 million to movie director Wei Te Sheng.
Having directed the hit movie Cape No. 7, Wei’s new venture is a movie called Seediq Bale. The budget for the movie soon ballooned to almost $90 million, and Wei found himself in some trouble. A representative from Jay Chou’s company said in a statement that, “Jay supports good movies, good directors. They needed money at the time, so Jay helped out, but we can’t disclose the actual amount.” Jay Chou’s gross income last year was about $80 million.
The movie will revolve around the Wushe Incident in Taiwan. Taking place in 1930, the Wushe Incident was the biggest and last rebellion by the Taiwanese people against Japanese colonial influence.
Sounds like it’s going to be a pretty interesting movie! I’ve heard about the incident, and judging from what I know, this film could be a little on the bloody side… Either way, kudos to Jay for loaning out his money!
