Promo posters for the upcoming My Girlfriend is a Nine-Tailed Fox drama featuring leads Lee Seung Gi and Shin Min Ah have recently been released. To be quite honest, I had to Wikipedia the nine-tailed fox folklore stories to understand what this drama is about. Now that I know what it’s about, I’m proposing a drama name change.
Maneater. Like the Nelly Furtado and/or Hall & Oates song. The nine-tailed fox is essentially what Koreans like to call beautiful women who, “trick unsuspecting men and later consume their hearts.” (Wikipedia)The drama is as you’ve guessed, about a maneater. Only, the male lead will do anything to keep himself a live. (Who wouldn’t?)
Now, isn’t ‘Maneater’ less of a mouthful than saying, “Hey I’m totally watching My Girlfriend is a Nine-Tailed Fox on TV tonight.” How much more attractive does Maneater sound than MGIANTF? Even in Korean, it’s a mouthful!
An interesting note about the promo posters is that the idea of Shin Min Ah kicking up her leg is to give Lee Seung Gi a glimpse at her 9 tails. She is one sassy lady. Now, if this drama were called Maneater, the promo poster would be less cheesy leg back kick and more like the poster on the left.
The drama will be airing in August of this year — who’s watching?
