The Last Airbender may be the last action film for M. Night Shyamalan. This might sound like a bold statement coming from non-film buff, but the critics make it clear: It wasn’t good. Here’s a round up of what the movie critics had to say:

Two Thumbs Up:

“He hasn’t mastered the craft yet, but M. Night Shyamalan may be on to something with this action-movie thing.” - Scott Bowls, USA Today

“The Last Airbender is one of the most visually luscious and exhilarating entertainments I have seen this year, full of giddy fireworks and kinetic pleasure.” - Colin Covert, Minneapolis Star Tribune

Two Thumbs Down:

“By specifically critical and broadly adult standards, this film is undoubtedly a disappointment, but it is disappointing in a way that its intended audience may not notice.” - Los Angeles Times

“An astute industry analyst of my acquaintance, who is 9 and an admirer of the Nickelodeon animated series on which the movie is based, offered a two-word diagnosis of its commercial prospects on the way out of the theater: “They’re screwed.”" - New York Times

“Your eyes are sometimes dazzled, but you’re shut out of the spectacle because there’s no one of any force or charm or stature to identify with.” - Entertainment Weekly

“M. Night Shyamalan’s THE LAST AIRBENDER is a hate crime against film lovers. No one should ever have to endure what I was unexpectedly put through yesterday afternoon watching this murky 3-D shitstorm of a movie that appears to have been shot through unflushed toilet bowl water, which, upon reflection, seems 100 percent appropriate.” -AintItCool

With it being 4th of July weekend and also the week that Eclipse debuted, The Last Airbender has a long weekend ahead of it.
