Chinese actress Zhang Ziyi is set to play Lin Huiyin China’s first female architect on the big screen. As if Ziyi playing the title role is not big enough news yet, Taiwanese actor Ethan Ruan will also play the 20th century Chinese poet Xu Zhimo, and Chang Chen (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon) Lin’s husband, Liang Sicheng. Filming is scheduled to begin later this year according to president of the Joy Media Company Dong Zhaohui.
Lin Huiyin (1904-1955), who’s become widely known for her remarkable and outstanding achievements in architecture and literature, came from an upper-class family and married Liang Sicheng. Lin Huiyin and her husband together designed the National emblem and the Monument to the People’s Heroes, which now stands in the heart of Beijing’s Tian’anmen Square.
Zhang says she enjoys the challenge of acting the part of this gifted and beautiful woman. Having just finished filming Life Is A Miracle, about the romance between two people with HIV living in a village in Henan, this tribute to Lin Huiyin is her second art house film in succession.
