A video of Big Bang performing Beautiful Hangover on Mezamashi Live has surfaced, leaving me a frustrated blogger at the moment. Why? Because as much as my biases lie in YG, what has been coming out of the Big Bang department is not quite as enthusing as I keep anticipating. I really don’t want to throw a fit, but boy is this song not cutting it.

As fellow blogger Tuc mentioned before, Big Bang is set to release yet another small batch of songs in Japan, one of which is titled ‘Beautiful Hangover‘ (I’ve never used the words beautiful and hangover in the same sentence, either). They recently premiered the single during a performance at Mezamashi Live 2010 in Odaiba, Tokyo, where they broke a 3 year record with an audience of 8,000 fanatics.

Here it is in low quality, but enough for you to get a good feel of what the song sounds like:

Personally, this song isn’t as melodic as I would like it to be. It may be all electro-fied like the rest of Big Bang’s Japanese singles, but that doesn’t warrant you to toss all engaging elements out of the window. ‘Gara Gara Go!‘ isn’t my favorite Big Bang song, but its got that same ambiance about it with much nicer phrasing. This ‘Beautiful Hangover‘ doesn’t quite live up to its name for me.

From the reiterative lyrics and GD always rapping about himself, to the anticlimactic middle 8 and uninspiring instrumental — I’m not even going to evade it: I’m worried.

However, I won;t continue my Negative-Nancy ways because I will in fact give this song another chance when I hear it in higher quality. I think I’ll step into denial for a while til I hear the HQ studio version because I really do adore this group.

Til then, I’ll let you all decide. What do you think of ‘Beautiful Hangover’? Do share your honest thoughts below!
