The official website of Monthly Flowers magazine announced that Yuu Watase’s beloved manga series, Fushigi Yuugi, is going to become a play production.
The play will feature Mao Miyaji as the lead role with ShintarÅ Sugano writing and directing it. The play will be performed at Tokyo’s Nakano The Pocket theater from October 20 to October 24. More information will be revealed in Flowers’ October issue available August 27.
Though the thought has never crossed my mind until now, I think creating a stage play of Fushigi Yuugi is very fitting for the series. The setting, the clothing, the drama…it’s like the manga series was made for the stage. I can already imagine the costumes and the neat stage effects (well, the series is also known as the Mysterious Play). The first thing that popped into my head when I thought of Fushigi Yuugi stage play was a Chinese opera.
