Just when you thought all that World Cup craze had died down, think again! Some disturbing news regarding North Korea’s soccer team has recently surfaced. Keep reading to find out what happened when they returned to their country!
According to unknown sources, the team was publicly humiliated at the People’s Palace of Culture on July 2nd. For six hours, the team was exposed to criticism and verbal abuse as a consequence for their lackluster performance at the World Cup. For those of you that don’t remember, this was North Korea’s first appearance at the event in forty-four years. Unfortunately, the team fell short in all three of their matches, including an embarrassing 0-7 loss to Portugal.
After several hours of humiliation, sources report that the team members were even made to criticize their own coach! The unknown source commented that, “… Coach Kim was probably reprimanded because somebody had to take the blame.” It is rumored that Coach Kim was kicked out of the party or sent to work at a construction site in Pyongyang.
There are some, however, that say North Korea could have done a lot worse. A South Korean source was quoted as saying that, “In the past, North Korean athletes and coaches who performed badly were sent to prison camps. Considering the high hopes North Koreans had for the World Cup, the regime could have done worse things to the team than just reprimand them for their ideological shortcomings.”
… There are no words for this. There is some messed up stuff going on over there… I feel sorry for the team.
