Ever wish you could dress up as your favorite anime or manga character? Well, that’s what cosplaying is for! Cosplaying, which is a highly popular hobby among Otakus (Japanese anime/manga fanatics), is actually something that you can compete in, too! In fact, the 2010 World Cosplay Summit has just ended, and a winner has been chosen!

Created in 2003, the World Cosplay Summit started with only four participating countries. The list of participants has since expanded, with this year’s event hosting fifteen countries: Australia, Brazil, China, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, Thailand, and the United States.

This year, participants from Italy took home the prize. Luca Buzzi and Giancarlo di Pierro dressed up as Link and Ganandorf from the popular Legend of Zelda video game series. They even choreographed a three-minute action scene that thoroughly impressed the judges panel.

Orawan Aggavinate and Patawikorn Uttisen from Thailand dressed as the Cloud Strife and summon monster Bahamut SIN from Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children, They were recognized and received the special Brother Award for outstanding costume. Thailand and Brazil were both runners-up in the main competition, but fell short to Italy’s amazing display of dedication. This year’s judges included voice actor Tohru Furuya, JAM Project member Hironobu Kageyama, and Canadian anime theme song singer HIMEKA.
