On August 13th, Taiwanese singer Leehom Wang made his directorial debut with the romantic comedy called Love In Disguise. After a successful debut in the box office, critics were expecting that the film would break the record for the highest-grossing directorial debut film by a Chinese director. Well, after just under two weeks in theaters, Love In Disguise has shattered the old record and is now setting one of its own! Keep reading for details!
Welcome To Shamatown, directed by Li Wei Ran, held the previous record, grossing an impressive 220 million TWD ($6.8 million). Leehom recently revealed on his official Facebook page, however, that Love In Disguise has broken that record, making a total of 240 million TWD ($7.4 million) so far!
Leehom celebrated with a giant cake topped with a plaque that read “Movie Man: 240,000,000.” He posted the above picture on Wednesday with the caption saying, “破記錄了!謝謝通通支持《戀愛通告》的朋友們 Broke the record! Thank you to all the “Love in Disguise” friends and fans!!” Fans of Leehom are delighted by the news, and the picture has gotten over 4,000 Facebook “likes.”
*sigh* Sometimes there are just some horrible disadvantages to living in the United States. Not being able to see this movie yet is definitely one of them. Again, I’ve still been hearing mixed reviews about the movie, but you can be sure to get my take on it as soon as the film gets released on DVD!
Congratulations, Leehom! 加油!
