There seems to be more and more Asian-American performers steadily making appearances within American pop-culture, especially in pop groups. The Stunners is an American girl-group that currently consists of 5 members: Tinashe Kachingwe, Lauren Hudson, Allie Gonino, Marisol Esparza, and Japanese-American, Hayley Kiyoko. The group was formed by the renowned singer and produced, Colleen “Vitamin C” Fitzpatrick during a recording session.

They signed to the Columbia Records shortly after their formation. For all you Disney iCarly fans, The Stunners made their unofficial debut with the track “Let’s Hear It for the Boy,” a cover of the 1984 song by Deniece Williams, on the soundtrack for the first season. Their official debut came in 2009, with the release of their single “Bubblegum.” In early 2010, the group left their original record label, and signed with Universal Republic, where they came out with a new single, “Dancing Around the Truth” featuring the rap, hip-hop duo, “New Boyz.” Check out their MV below!

The group is also planning on releasing their first album sometime later this year. If you’re interested in this group make sure to buy their album! The Stunners also opened for Justin Bieber’s “My World Tour” from June 23, 2010 till July 28, 2010. Looks like this talented group has also caught Bieber’s eye! What makes this group even more unique is that they are also great actresses–Hayley Kiyoko is best known for her role as Velma Dinkley in “Scooby-Doo! The Mystery Begins!

I think this group has lots of potential to make it big in the American entertainment world. Each of them harbors lots of attitude in their singing and dancing. The beat to the song “Dancing Around the Truth,” is also extremely catchy–I think this would be a great song to sing and dance around to with your friends after a stressful day of school. I love how Hayley is almost always in front in all the scenes they show of the group dancing. What makes me a little upset, though, is that she doesn’t get a lot of solo parts in the song.
