Not too long ago, I wrote blog post about King of Baking, Kim Tak Goo being exported to six different Asian countries. I guess all good things must come to an end because the labor union of Korea’s broadcasting staffs, actors, singers, and artists stated that they will not participate in shooting 13 of their shows until the broadcasting companies straighten out unpaid wage problems. They also want to make sure this does not happen again in the future.

The labor union decided to start boycotting on August 27th, and they will soon hold a press conference (September 1st) to unveil the names of shows that they rejected to participate in.

Obviously, since they are refusing to film dramas and shows, all of them have to be on a temporary hiatus until they work things out. Some of the popular shows that are affected by this are King of Baking, Giant, I Am Legend, Gloria, and Kim Soo Ro (NOOOOOOOO).

A source reveals, “Though some shows don’t have payment issues, the possibility of cases like this occurring in the future is very likely. Unless the companies come up with systematic regulations we can agree on, we will continue our boycotts.”

What’s more shocking is the amount of money the broadcasting companies failed to pay: 4.368 million won.

Kim Eung Suk, chairman of the association stated, “Though we’ve tried our best to solve payment problems during the last two years, it was of no avail. Rather, companies and subcontractors have taken advantage of us instead.”

I am not sure how to think of this because how could this even happen? Actors and staff members not getting paid for their work doesn’t make sense whatsoever. I am just extremely disappointed that I won’t be able to see Tak Goo.
