When I first heard about SS501’s Kim Hyun Joong being cast as the leading male role, my curiosity for this new drama , Playful Kiss, reached the peak. I watched the anime version a long time ago, so I didn’t remember that much about the series. I was quite disappointed to hear a random girl being cast as the main girl, but my love for Kim Hyun Joong made me forget everything about the girl. After watching the first episode, I didn’t know what to think of it. Here are the highlights from the first episode: (WARNING: SPOILER ALERT)

Oh Ha Ni had a dream where she was in this random fantasyland. Someone kissed her on the lips, and she woke up. She saw a unicorn and started following it. Then, her crush, Baek Seung Jo showed up. Just when they were about to exchange a kiss, she woke up from a dream.

Grades from exams were released, and Seung Jo received the highest mark… again.

Seung Jo tried to get something from a vending machine, but the machine didn’t work properly. Ha Ni then kicked the machine, making it release Seung Jo’s drink. Without saying anything, Seung Jo left.

Bong Joon Goo had a crush on Ha Ni. He did everything to make her happy, such as giving her some yummy homemade food.

Ha Ni wrote a love letter to Seung Jo.

Seung Jo returned her love letter with grammar corrections and humiliated her in front of everyone. He told her that he doesn’t like dumb girls.

Joon Goo was mad to see Ha Ni sad, so he tried to start a fight with Seung Jo. Just when they were about to, their teacher stopped them.

News about Ha Ni being rejected spread around the school.

Ha Ni and her dad moved into a two-story house.

Ha Ni’s friends came over to check out her new place.

Due to a small earthquake, Ha Ni’s weak house fell apart. Her house was the only house in her neighborhood that was completely demolished.

Joon Goo tried to raise money for Ha Ni. Seung Jo tried to donate money, but Ha Ni stopped him. Out of anger, Ha Ni started ranting, which led to making a bold bet: If she gets into a special class, then Seung Jo needs to give her a piggyback ride and go around the field once.

After staying at a hotel for a while, Ha Ni’s dad’s friend allowed them to live with them. It turns out that was Seung Jo’s house.

I was extremely disappointed after watching the first episode. I guess my expectations of this drama were too high, but I feel like the whole drama was so boring. They TRIED to make things funny, but their sense of humor was pretty dry to me. I also didn’t like the way Kim Hyun Joong and Jung So Min acted. I mean, they can’t help it since they have to act that way for their roles. However, Jung So Min’s character, Oh Ha Ni, frustrated me so much. I wanted to shake her!!!!!! The story is quite obvious, so I am not expecting anything surprising, unless the producers start tweaking it. I doubt they will though.
