Playful Kiss Ep.2: Highlights and Thoughts

Even though I was dissatisfied with the first episode of Playful Kiss, I didn’t want to just give up watching it. I was hoping to see it improve, and in fact, it did…. slightly. It can never be as good as King of Baking, Kim Tak Goo, but this episode wasn’t TOO bad. Here are the highlights from today’s episode: (WARNING: SPOILER ALERT)

Eun Jo (Seung Jo’s little brother) wouldn’t introduce himself to Ha Ni because he thought she was stupid (well, he got THAT right). In order to test her intelligence, Eun Jo asked her a 6th grade level kanji question. Ha Ni of course couldn’t answer it, so she made up something ridiculous. However, Seung Jo caught her because he corrected her. In the end, Eun Jo called Ha Ni stupid.

Seung Jo’s mom made a room for Ha Ni (it used to be Eun Jo’s room). She was happy to have Ha Ni around the house because she always wanted a daughter. On top of giving Ha Ni her own room, she also gave her a pair of shoes.

Seung Jo and Ha Ni walked to the school together the next day because she didn’t know the directions.

After school, Ha Ni ended up going back home with Joon Goo, but she ditched him because she didn’t want him to find out about her living with Seung Jo. After leaving Joon Goo, she went back to school, so that she can go back home with Seung Jo. However, he already went home. She had to go back home all by herself.

On her way back home, she encountered a “Burberry Man” (NOTE: Korean people pronounce the name “Burberry” as “Bahbahri.” The “Burberry Man” is a creeper that lurks around the neighborhood at night and flashes at girls).

The Burberry Man stole one of her shoes, and in order to get it back, Ha Ni allowed him to flash at her once. Just when he revealed his naked body, Seung Jo came at perfect time and covered Ha Ni’s eyes. He also grabbed her shoe.

Seung Jo’s mom showed Ha Ni some baby pictures of Seung Jo who looked like a girl back in the day because Seung Jo’s mom raised him as a girl for the time being until he grew up. Seung Jo’s mom gave her one of the pictures for her to keep.

Seung Jo’s and Ha Ni’s gym clothes were switched, so they had to meet up while everyone was watching them. After they exchanged the clothes, Ha Ni revealed the baby picture to Seung Jo, who became furious after seeing the picture. Ha Ni made him become her tutor for the upcoming midterm.

Seung Jo was frustrated with Ha Ni because she didn’t know anything, so he had to start teaching from the basics. Ha Ni claimed that it’s because she has a different interest (she showed a picture of Super Junior and started reciting each member’s name). They both fell asleep, and Seung Jo’s mom took a picture of them sleeping.

Ha Ni studied her butt off for the midterm. Her hard work paid off because results came out, and she was able to get into the special studying classroom.

The episode ended with everyone egging Seung Jo on to give Ha Ni a piggyback ride.

I started laughing when Ha Ni took out a picture of Super Junior (it was a promotional picture for Super Show 2). It seems like she and I have the same interest! Anyways, I think this drama is getting better, sort of. I still don’t like random imagination scenes that pop out of nowhere. Trust me, they are not that funny. Seung Jo is still being a cold guy, but he softened up a bit. Eun Jo is such a jerk-y kid. I know Ha Ni is dumb, but no need to keep pointing that out! There is no chance of Ha Ni becoming smarter in the future, but at least she was able to get into the special studying classroom! Kudos to Ha Ni!
