Shame on you if you missed the third episode of CW’s Nikita, but we’re here to keep you up to date as our daring heroine attempts to foil yet another Division mission. As usual, spoilers are definitely ahead, so proceed with caution.

Divison has yet another target. (Jeez, will these guys ever let up?) You know what that means–Nikita’s got her work cut out for her. This time they’ve targeted a young freelance journalist who devotes her time to exposing government conspiracies and the like. Uh oh. She’s apparently gotten wind of Division’s latest secretly illegal venture, which involved some sort of plane crash in the Appalachians. Division doesn’t like this and sends out guys to get her and find out what she knows and how.

Alex manages to find out the reporter’s name under the cover of fighting with Jaden and instantly reports it to Nikita.

Meanwhile, the journalist, Jill, attempts to sell the story to her publisher, though she doesn’t have the full account. She claims that her source told her there were black helicopters at the site where the Air America plane had crashed, which had arrived before the press had gotten wind of the accident. The people from the black helicopters seemed to be retrieving something from the fallen airplane. The publicist doesn’t believe her, because she has yet to obtain the video from her source (who wants $50,000 in exchange). Division decides to cut the conversation short by kidnapping Jill and killing her publisher (the organization later frames Jill for his murder). Then Nikita decides to butt in. She knocks out Division’s grunts and takes Jill with her.

The race is on as Division and Nikita/Jill both struggle to get to the source’s video first.

Division is concerned about how Nikita always seems to be one step ahead of them. Their resident techie and nerd, Birkoff, tells Michael and Percy that there is no conceivable way she managed to access their network and snarkily comments that he’s the only one who can possibly hack into it, leading them to send him to see Amanda, interrogator extraordinaire. After several tests, Amanda discovers that Birkoff is telling the truth when he claims that he isn’t in cohorts with Nikita, but discovers that she planted a transmitting device in his molar.

Meanwhile, Jill and Nikita plan to rendezvous with the source at North Virginia State University, after finding out that Division is allegedly helping the CEO of Air America smuggle cocaine into the country via his planes.

Division, on the other hand, is having trouble finding leads about where to locate the source (and Jill and Nikita). Michael comes up with the idea of having the recruits help track the source down under the guise of a practice mission. He presents the recruits with items Division had taken from Jill’s house and tells them that they are from a terrorist who met with a munition supplier. They are to discern where the two met. Alex, who is on Thom and Jaden’s team, manages to figure out that the “terrorist” and the “munition supplier” met in a theater in Virginia. Michael bring Alex to tell Birkoff, who hacks the theater’s camera. They identify the source and and prepare teams to raid the source’s house. Alex realizes that she has been tricked into leading them right to Nikita and Jill. Michael, unaware of her turmoil, rewards her by letting her stay in the operations rooms.

The source stands up Jill and Nikita, so the pair breaks into his house. They all watch the video, which indeed provides the evidence of cocaine smuggling and the promised black helicopters. Division arrives at the scene and all hell breaks loose. Nikita tries to contact the police, but all communications are jammed. The source tries to run away from Jill and Nikita and gets shot to death by Division troops. The two ladies remain stuck in the house, seemingly with no way out.

Luckily, Alex is still in operations. She gets Birkoff to spill his Red Bull over his computer and takes advantage of his absence to request a police dispatch to the source’s house.

Nikita takes advantage of the police’s arrival to send Jill off with them. She herself stays behind to take on the rest of Division’s troops. Although she manages to knock out the grunts, she and Michael become involved in a heated fight, though neither of them seem to be able to kill each other. Nikita eventually flees, gasping for breath. Michael doesn’t look any better.

Jill succeeds in publishing the story, though she is still unable to incriminate the people in the black helicopters (Division). I guess that’s a story for another time.

This episode was definitely as adrenaline-inducing as its predecessors and it sets up interesting new situations that our character will be forced to adapt to. I’m especially interested in seeing how Nikita will manage to plant another red herring (Division found out about the transmitter in Birkoff’s molar) to prevent the organization from suspecting Alex. My only nitpick with this episode was that there wasn’t enough Alex, because I adore her as a character and think that she adds so much to the series.

But I’m definitely looking forward to the next episode! What about you guys?
