After announcing that she would be taking a hiatus from the music industry, famed Japanese singer Utada Hikaru is tying up some loose ends in her career, one of which involves appearing in a Pepsi ad… Singing in French!
In the thirty-second commercial for PEPSI NEX, Utada sings a French song entitled “Hymne a l’mour.” Many have remarked that Utada’s French accent is pretty spot on, and while I can’t really make a judgment on this, I’m willing to believe it, because Utada is just so very talented! Check out the commercial below:
In addition, Utada also did a short interview regarding the ad. Unfortunately, there are no English subtitles yet, but basically Utada explains that she made this special arrangement of the song with inspiration from Chick Corea’s “Spain:”
