Sometimes I look at all the KPOP girl groups that are in the industry today and think to myself, “If only I could pick out a couple of my favorites and stick them in my own girl group.” Well, after contemplating the members that I would actually choose, I have narrowed down my selection to five very talented ladies. I present to you, my KPOP Dream Team!
1. CL (2NE1)
CL, the fierce leader of 2NE1 was no doubt one of the first to come to my mind. Although a “rapper” is really a dime a dozen these days, CL has a certain flair that sets her apart from other girl group rappers. Not only can she spit lines but she also embodies what it means to be a rapper, that is, having the charisma and “badass” factor about her when she performs. Check out some of CL spitting her rhymes below:
In addition to that, CL also has an incredibly “soulful” singing voice. At the risk of sounding slightly politically incorrect, I would say that CL definitely sings like a black woman! Check out CL (and the rest of the group) singing “It Hurts” below:
2. Minzy (2NE1)
No, I’m not going to include all of 2NE1, but I do think that Minzy deserves a spot on my dream team, as well. Minzy is one talented seventeen year old. While she may act cute and innocent off stage, on stage, Minzy makes the transformation into a fierce and powerful dancing machine with moves that rival even some senior dancers in the industry! Check out her “Boom Boom Pow” dance below:
What many people neglect to notice, however, is that Minzy is also an exceptional singer. It’s clear that YG has seen this and has given her some more vocal training, because while she was good before, she’s even better now. Minzy has a pretty wide range, too, being able to hit both the low register and the high notes. Check her out in the 2NE1 cover of Beyonce’s “Broken-Hearted Girl:”
3. Kahi (After School)
Next on my list is yet another leader. After School’s Kahi is the leader for a reason. She’s hot, she’s sexy and, yes, she’s thirty! With the slow progression to a more liberal media in the past decade or so, “sexy” has essentially become a part of the entertainment industry. “Sexy,” however, often turns into “trashy.” Kahi is one of the few individuals that is able to strike a beautiful balance between “sexy” and “classy.”
In addition to her dancing, Kahi also is pretty proficient in the realms of rapping and singing. While she isn’t “the best” by any means, she certainly has proved that she can hold her own. See it all below:
4. Taeyeon (SNSD)
Oh, look! Another leader! I think it’s obvious that Taeyeon didn’t make my list because of her dancing, because let’s face it: she isn’t that great of a dancer. Taeyeon made it on this team, because she’s got the voice for it. ‘Nough said. Check out Taeyeon belting it out below:
5. Hyorin (SISTAR)
My final member, who is also a leader, is SISTAR’s Hyorin. In terms of vocal ability, I will hands down say that she gives all the other members of my group a run for their money in terms of vocal ability. Hyorin is absolutely a stunning singer, not only because she sounds good in recordings, but because her live performances are amazingly spot on. Hyorin is a TANK! Check out this MR removed version of “Shady Girl” (pay special attention to 2:27):
Also, check out Hyorin unintentionally showing up fellow member Soyu in this duet of “Stand Up For Love:”
So, how do you like my dream team? Agree? Disagree? Tell me what you think!
