Gloomy Salad Days Ep. 10: Highlights and Thoughts

Li You’s story continues in Gloomy Salad Days, as well as the stories from Xiao Ju and Qiao Qiao, and really, it only gets worse from this point on. I seriously cried throughout the entire episode, it was overwhelming depressing. Though this show holds an awareness, the fact that these are based off of true stories just makes my heart ache. I really support the message they are showing people, but it really isn’t the best type of thing to be constantly filing your mind with. Aaron Yan has really stressed on the ending, so I am determined to finish it now, but it’s just so sad. (Warning: Spoiler Alert!)

We last left off where Xiao Ju and Qiao Qiao ran away together for a two-day trip, they just wanted a chance to be alone and clear their heads, but this only makes matters worse. Overwhelmed with depression, I don’t believe Qiao Qiao ever had any intention on returning home, but being away slowly begins to eat away at good girl Xiao Ju.

After standing Li You up every chance she got since she got here, Xiao Ju breaks up with her saying she needs time to find out what love means to her. And while the two of them are away on their trip Qiao Qiao continues to update her blog, where she talks about suicide, as well as posting photos of her together with Xiao Ju. These photos catch everyone’s attention, and this appears on the news along with the harsh or encouraging responses from people. Shen Qi also sees these and notices Du in the background of a photo and sneaks out of the hospital with Xiao Dao to go after them, however when they finally arrive, they are too late.

After this news spread Li You got involved being that she is Xiao Ju’s ex. She began being questioned of her gender and couldn’t take it, now that her family name was involved this couldn’t be good for her father. She locked herself in her room unable to come out, it got too hard for her that she ended up killing herself!

One thing after another, after seeing Li You on the news Qiao Qiao and Xiao Ju ran to the beach telling Du that they will die together! They couldn’t be talked out of it and Du let them make the decision. The two walked far out into the deep ocean and drowned together. Back at school all the students were bombarded with news crew asking them questions about the girls, and Xiao Dao and his temper, he completely lost it and beat up some of the reporters saying that they killed his friends.

Seriously, I even cried for about a half an hour after the show went off. This episode was overwhelming. It may appear like they didn’t have any other option left, but suicide shouldn’t even be an option. Things would have gotten better over time, we all struggle in life, but we have to face through it, and from that we will grow stronger in life. I’ve lost friends to suicide, and it just breaks my heart.

I’m a little too sad to watch the next episode, but I will continue the series. Next time we will start following Xiao Dao’s story. Stay tuned.
