There were many great animes in the year of 2010. I’m nominating the Top Five Animes of the year not just fitting to my opinion but with the help of statistics as well. Then I will be picking the best choice out of the five based on my judgment. Feel free to agree or disagree, rest assured there will be no hard feelings. The Top Five Animes I have nominated in no particular order are:

Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood

An anime that was made too closely following the original manga story-line. It features a tale of two brothers making a journey to strengthen their bonds and their powers. The first fourteen episodes were not doing well due to the repeat of events but it all turned around in the 15th episode. The producers were praised for the great fight scenes and the emotional drama set in that episode and from there onwards fans have anticipated future episodes.

This anime has been searched on a monthly scale of 1,220,000 times globally and it is still growing despite the fact that the anime finished in July. I personally chose this anime because I felt that it had it all, laughs, a cute love story and emotional scenes. I myself couldn’t hold back tears when Nina and Hughes were killed. This anime was overall a heart-warming story that I recommend you watch. Let’s move on to the next choice.

K-On!

One of the best music-involved anime series in my opinion. This story revolves around four girls, one girl is a fresh face to the high school and tries to seek for a club to join. Two girls, a drummer and a bassist, are trying to recruit members for their music club to avoid disbandment. They manage to recruit a keyboard player and then later they recruit the new kid who they believe is a guitar prodigy.

This anime has been so popular that a second series was aired and rest assured it did pretty well in the ratings. K-On! won the award for DVD of the Year 2009 award in the TV Anime category back in 2009 and since it is a musical anime, a CD was released. That CD topped on the Oricon Weekly Chart in July 2009 making it the first ever Anime Character album to reach that high. I really loved the four girls’ personalities, I found them absolutely hilarious and amusing. I recommend you watch it if you’re into rock music and typical anime comedy.

Durarara!!

This anime features a male transfer student who later goes on to discover many supernatural cases. While encountering these cases, he must avoid enemies such as the Yellow Turbans gang. I think the overall anime was unique and innovative, although the ending was disappointing the overall anime was great.

Durarara has had over 16,000 DVD sales for April, May, October and November and have placed in the Top 3 spots and has been searched globally 368,000 times a month. Aniplex of America have invested in the anime and will be making English dubbed versions set to be released in 2011.

Naruto: Shippuden

The on-going sequel to the original Naruto anime series that I found so entertaining. A story where each character has matured (only slightly) but still having it’s humorous side as well as it’s action-packed scenes. This anime still continues on to 2011 and is already up to their ninth season. They also currently have four movie titles, each receiving over $7,800,000 gross worldwide.

Not only are the movies, mangas and anime adaptions doing well but also the Naruto: Shippuden games, trading cards and CDs. According to Google, The title ‘Naruto: Shippuden‘ has been searched over a whopping 20,400,000 times a month globally with ‘Naruto‘ alone being searched 68,000,000 times. The only thing I hate about this anime is that you have a wait a full 7 days before the next episode comes out, I’m not very patient person.

Bleach

Another on-going anime series that excites many. A story about Kurosaki Ichigo, a boy with the ability to see ghosts/spirits whose powers exceed most. The overall anime is filled with action and comedy from the crazy main characters to the crazy minor characters. Currently rated at 55.9% for a 10 and also a rating of 8.8 out of 10 on IMDB, I’d say this anime is doing great for a long-running series.

To be honest I lost interest in the anime when the fillers started to begin. They were hilarious but it kind of made me forget what happened before the fillers started so I had to go and re-watch those again which was annoying. When a friend told me the action was back, I was hooked once more.

And the winner for Best Anime of the Year award goes to…

K-On! I am a sucker for cute and humorous animes and I really like music so this anime was the best in my thoughts. Each character had their own quirks and twists but they also work together as one and form a strong friendship, adorable.

So which Anime do you think is the best? It doesn’t have to be on my list of favorites, voice your opinions in the comments below.
