It’s been an explosive year for album releases, many of which star our favorite artists who are no rookies to knowing what makes a good track. The contenders for “Best Album” stole our play counts, sales on the charts, and possibly our wallets in wanting to pick up the original and repackaged versions. All worth it, but only one can be the winner…

Before we start I have to sneak this in here…

…an Honorable Mention to G-Dragon & T.O.P’s GD & TOP album. Fresh off of the release as of today, one listen (among repeats right now) and I am sure that it would’ve been one to take the charts if there were a few more days left in 2010. From the addicting and bouncy lyrics of “High High” to the more smooth seduction of “Jibe Gajima/Don’t Go Home“, I’m impressed and just had to somehow include it. Now onto the nominees!

1. Bruno Mars - Doo-Wops & Hooligans

Bruno Mars had long been a professional in producing and being a songwriter for other artists, but 2010 was when he really became known and shined as a solo artist. He taught us how to love one another “Just the Way You Are” and the limits of that love with a “Grenade“. As a new artist to the scene, he debuted at #3 on the Billboard 200, which is impressive in itself. So you can’t deny that it’s fitting he’s here, since I’m sure all of you have played and replayed one of his songs at least once.

2. 2NE1 - To Anyone

An album that a lot of Blackjacks were waiting for. A lot of excitement awaited the release of this album, of which fans got an early taste of with promoted tracks from each of the members the previous year (Bom’s “You and I“, Minzy’s “Please Don’t Go“). But when news came that they would be simultaneously promoting 3 tracks for To Anyone’s official debut, you know that it had to be good. Debuting #1 on the Gaon Album Chart, they also swept the monthly chart with sales of 100,000 in just the first month. Obvious why “Can’t Nobody” do it like 2NE1 can.

3. SHINee - Lucifer

A new image of SHINee came to us with Lucifer that was definitely impressive, showing fans the lyrical skills and vocals that these boys have grown into. Whether the catchy beats of “Lucifer” roped you in or you’ve been strangely calmed by “A-Yo“, the charts don’t lie when they were able to rack up sales of over 100,000 in under a month. Not to mention the immense love from the repackaged Version B Lucifer or additional track, “Hello“, that showed us the boyish charms we fell in love with.

4. SNSD - Run Devil Run

The Oh! album repackaged, presented us with the stronger image of SNSD in “Run Devil Run“. An equally addicting song as their first promoted track that made us go “Oh!” at all the cute aegyo. It’s hard to not get either melodies stuck in your head and want to sing along, especially since they were able to pull off both images so well. Along with the upbeat tracks, the ballads were really something in showing fans what powerful vocals the girls have. Easy to see why they were able to pull in sales of 150,000, with 30,000 on the very first day. Not to mention their iTunes debut for countries around the world and their solid positions in various Top 10 music charts.

5. Super Junior - Bonamana

Whether you have Version A, B, C or the repackaged No Other copy of this album, Super Junior definitely showed everyone that they were back and wanted our hearts again. The strong sounds of “Bonamana” made it difficult to not want to bop along to the dance, not to mention if any of us can resist the appeal of cuddley SuJu in “No Other“. Sales were astonishing to say the least, 300,000 total with over 100,000 of it sold in the first 8 days. Their #1 spot on the Hanteo charts was pretty much a given.

And the winner for Best Album of the Year…

Super Junior’s Bonamana! Sales were swept across the board for them, not to mention how they became a Twitter Trending Topic with every award win and single release. E.L.F.s and general fans couldn’t stop raving for this album and so this title is given proudly that they are the best reminder of Best Album for 2010.
