Elle India is being accused of lightening Bollywood actress Aishwarya Rai’s skin on the January issue of the magazine. From what I can tell, they might have used a lightening technique, but it could also just be the lighting that they used for the photographs. The magazine has also been accused of lightening Gabourey Sidibe’s skin last October as well. Well, Rai is having none of it.

A source close to the actress has said she is pissed. According to the source, “Aishwarya’s first reaction was disbelief. Not in this day and age when women are recognized for their merit, and not for the color of their skin. She is currently verifying this skin-whitening allegation. If there is any proof of this, she might even take action.” Good for her! I hope the magazine really didn’t do it because that is just ridiculous. Hopefully this issue gets resolved soon.
