In the 3+ year history of this website, we’ve only been down 3 times unexpectedly. Unfortunately we’ve been down twice this week. Part of the reason why is because we’ve been growing really fast. Another reason is because we’re working on a couple of big projects that has been a drain on our network resources. So we’ve been working furiously to try to add more servers to our network but it’s been hard to keep pace. Yesterday, a routine server upgrade become somewhat of nightmare when stuff decided to not work anymore. That caused us to be down for abut 18 hours and brought about a cascade of problems. However, the worst part is that we also lost about 18 hours worth of data. This is the first time we’ve ever lost data. It’s rather unfortunate and what I meant by yesterday (or rather Tuesday) didn’t happen. But…we have ways of making it up to everyone!

First let’s deal with the data loss. If you registered, commented, entered a contest or giveaway, submitted a game score, voted in newsstream, etc after 6am EST on 1/11/11: All of that is gone. You’re going to have to do those things again. We sincerely apologize for that.

As a way try and make it up to you guys, we’re going to be giving out lots of Reward Points and autographs in the next few days - after things settle down a bit. Expect a lot of announcements soon!

The bright side in all of this is that we’re on faster servers now and we’ve added a lot more safeguards to prevent any future data loss. Hopefully your Ningin surfing experience is a bit faster now.
