On Youtube, TimothyDeLaGhetto is best known as a top comedian whose views average in the millions. One of his most notable videos include a Bruno Mars song parody of Just The Way You Are, called Only From Afar. Following the wrap-up of his recent performance for MYX TV’s Loaded Concert, TimothyDeLaGhetto was kind enough to grant us an interview providing insight on his life as a Youtube comedian and his thoughts on the new Myspace.

JI: What inspires you the most in filming videos?

TDLG: The ideas for my videos usually just come from real life. Most of the ridiculous scenarios are just accidental jokes that are made when I’m hanging out with my friends, then I’ll go, “Dude, we have to make a Youtube video out of that.” I’ve always loved entertaining people and making people laugh. Amongst all the ignorance and racism on Youtube, every once in a while there are comments from people saying, “Hey man, I had a really rough day, but then I saw your video and it really cheered me up.” The fact that I can spread a little joy through the world with a camera and a stupid idea is why I do it.

JI: What’s the whole process of filming a video like for you?

TDLG: It really depends on the video. For example, for the video “Dude, Show Me Your D*ck,” that whole video came from a random conversation. I wanted to capture that aspect of it, so when it came time to film it I just turned the camera on while Rick and I improv-ed back and forth for a few minutes. On the other hand, there are videos like “Only From Afar” (my Bruno Mars parody) where I took the song, spent time writing it, then I had to find studio time and record it. I really wanted the music video to look legit, so we had a camera crew film it, set up lights, makeup and wardrobe, and then someone else editted it. Sometimes its really complex, and sometimes its just me and my camera.

JI: How much has life changed for you since becoming a regular fixture of Youtube’s Most Viewed Comedians category?

TDLG: I never imagined that Youtube would change my life so much. I started off just doing Youtube videos so I could put stupid clips on my myspace page. Now I get recognized all the time. Kids are asking me to take pictures with them. I’m getting paid to travel the world and perform and be funny. I went from being a broke waiter to practically paying my parents bills, and it’s all cuz of Youtube. It’s nuts.

JI: You work a lot of your comedic magic on Youtube — would you ever consider live stand-up comedy?

TDLG: Stand up has always been something I’ve wanted to try. I’ve been a big fan of standup ever since I was a little kid. I used to watch old stand up routines from Eddie Murphy and Robin Williams with my dad. Growing up I would watch Comedy Central all the time. I’ve dabbled a little bit here and there. The first time I ever tried it, I was really nervous. I kept saying “like” and the whole thing was pretty sloppy, but I’d love to try again and see how I could develop it.

JI: If there was only one message you could send the world through your videos, what message would that be?

TDLG: I’m all about spreading love and positivity. So many people get wrapped up in all the useless drama that they lose perspective of how beautiful life can be. At the risk of sounding like a hallmark card, sometimes you just gotta take a deep breath, and appreciate life.

JI: Who would you most be interested in collaborating with in the future?

TDLG: One of these days I would love to work with Kanye West. He says some crazy off the wall stuff sometimes, but then again so do I. My whole life I have had people telling me that I’m weird or crazy. I love what he does musically and how he’s always trying to be different and push the boundaries of what we’re used to seeing or hearing. All of the most genius people were a bit crazy.

JI: We all know how you feel about Facebook, but what are your thoughts on the new Myspace?

TDLG: I actually got used to Facebook. You kinda have to adjust with the times. After all, my entire networks were built online. I need to stay current. The new Myspace layout completely ruined any chances Myspace had of coming back. It’s horrendous. I havent been on Myspace since the new layout debuted.

(EDITOR’S NOTE: This question seems to have inspired a new video on his thoughts and feelings of Myspace, just uploaded today.)

JI: Any upcoming projects you’d like to let our readers know about?

TDLG: My crew and i are still working on finishing our full length musical “High School Sucks” which will be done very very soon. I’m also working on a brand new album with singer JR Aquino which we’re going to start working on within the next couple of months, but it should be a classic. Other than that I’m just concentrating on getting lots of new videos and content out there for the people!

We’re all looking forward to what you produce in the future!
