During the most recent episode of SBS’s “Star King”, Korean-German violinist, Park Ji Hye, also known as Jihae Park, appeared as a guest and her heartbreaking story even cause U-KISS’s Dongho to shed a few tears.

She first explained that at the early age of 14, she was a student at the School of Music in Mainz, Germany. Due to her amazing skills she was then sent to America so that she may learn and hopefully excel more than already. She also revealed that her Guarneri violin, which happens to be one of three in the world, was lent to her by the German government and costs somewhere around 40 billion won or approximately $35.52 million.

Unfortunately though, like many people she had to face many struggles to get to this point. She explained, “At one time, I was severely depressed. While I was studying abroad, my mom was unable to afford my studies because of the IMF Financial Crisis. Music became more of a burden instead of a joy. I played at places like Sorokdo and playing classic music or energetically playing ‘Hometown’s Spring’ made me happier. Music became the force that uplifted me out of depression.”

U-KISS’s youngest, Dongho, then began crying. He explained the reason for his tears saying “Because I started my singing career from a young age, there were many times I complained and wanted to quit. I know how it feels, but seeing her go through times much worse than mine is very encouraging.”

I really truly believe that these are the type of stories that make people stronger and also makes them appreciate what they do even more. Even though both Park Ji Hye and Dongho’s stories were very sad, seeing them today, successfully living out their dreams just makes me want to reach my dreams even more.

I usually get bored easily by musical instruments with strings like guitar, violin, cello e.t.c but this is some epically awesome violin playing! It was great! She is really talented! Wish i could play an instrument as good as her -.-
