This morning around 3am EST, 3pm local Japan time, there was a magnitude 8.8 earthquake that struck off the cost of northeast Japan. Subsequent tsunamis as high as 23 feet further devastated the Japanese coastline. According to Yahoo news, this is the 5th largest earthquake in the past 100 years. Tsunami warnings for waves as high as 8 feet have been issued for Hawaii and the coast Pacific coast of the United States. At least 1000 people have already been reported dead with many more reported missing. Important and updated information about this catastrophe including emergency contacts, shakemap, and shelter locations can be found on Google’s Crisis Response page. Video of the Tsunami courtesy of CNN can be found below:

Everytime I read something about the tsunami and the earthquake I tear up. Thankfully my loved ones are safe for now. I continue to pray for their safety.

There are Red Cross organizations that are available if you want to donate money. I pray for the safety of everyone in Japan. My professor is stuck there at the moment >_<;
Although the earthquake caused alot of damage we can’t forget about the people who lost their lives or the life of a loved one. To lose you home is one thing but to also lose someone you love is a much bigger hardship.
-Praying for everyone in Japan

I hope everyone will be okay and that all will be well in the end… :|

I heard the news yesterday as I went home from school and it was ver devastating. Right now I can only pray for them and hope after the earthquakes are done, people from all around the world would give money to them.
May God be with them always.

I cried when I heard this on the radio and when I was watching it on the news. My school hosted Japanese students, and when they were leaving back to Japan, it had an Earthquake. I’m also hosting a Japanese student who will be living with me, I hope she well and alright..
I honestly feel sad for those who are affected in the earthquake and tsunami. R.I.P and goodluck.
I hope, countries and citizens alike give as much money and support to Japan as they did to Haiti, even though Japan is a more developed country. How developed a country is should not determine how much help they get when facing a monumental disaster.
Still waiting to hear from one of my friends who was there for work. Everyone else is ok, thankfully.
My thoughts are prayers go out to all.

I have a friend who lives in sendai, right beside the epicenter of the earthquake, I have yet to get in contact with her but I’m hoping and praying that she is safe. Because of this earthquake japan has stopped all production, nuclear power plants have been shut down and tsunamis have taken over many rice farms. There are several cities along the shore the now cease to exist. I hope that Ningin users can support more J-pop J-rock music in these hard times to give Japan more publicity and hopefully help lessen the impact of their falling economy.

Heard about this an hour after the disaster.
I also sent a message to Ningin about this, but I’ll say it again.
As lovers of Asian music, Ningin users should really lend a hand at a time like this. This is just a suggestion, but instead of giving out giveaways, could Ningin perhaps try doing a contest that’s similar to an auction? Winners get the actual giveaways, and they are determined based on EXP and perhaps $ as well.
Why?
1)It’s a really good incentive, and in terms of positive feedback, it will create more publicity for this website.
2)Most of us are from North America. Although the news and media is all around us, we don’t have a very clear grasp of the desperation people on the other side of the ocean are going through.
3)This is not about who’s richer or not. This is simply a great opportunity for us, as lovers of Jpop+Kpop+Cpop+ASIAN POP, to really show the world our passion, and to display our love for the music in a very meaningful way.
So Ningin execs I really hope you get this message and seriously consider this suggestion!
Thanks
Ivy
