Following Japan’s tragic earthquake and tsunami, thousands of people have been left without food or water. There have been many charities like the Red Cross and the Salvation Army that have been gathering donations every minute of each day. Also joining them are Hallyu stars, donating thousands of dollars for the relief.
Famous actor Bae Yong Joon, also known as Yon-sama to his Japanese fans, recently generously donated $900,000 USD for emergency support. The money was given to the head of the Japan Tourism Agency, who will then distribute it out to other organizations. As stated by Keyeast representatives, Bae Yong Joon has also given out food, blankets, and other necessities as well.
Hallyu actor Song Seung Hun donated $175,000 USD to the Salvation Army to help the cause on March 14th. He said, “It’s so heartbreaking to see what happened in Japan, so I had to help at least a tiny bit, and I figured Salvation Army would be best. If everyone can donate something small, a big positive change can occur.”
SS501’s Kim Hyun Joong did his part in donating around $89,000 USD for the victims of the tragic disaster. He asked the money to be given to the victims that were affected the most and afflicted areas. The singer said, “My heart hurts so much to hear about this. I hope that everyone can stay strong.”
Hallyu star Jang Geun Suk, who is also loved by many Japanese fans, donated $122,000 USD to the Japan Red Cross. Along with the donation, he left a message saying, “I hope that disaster victims can resume normal life as soon as possible.”
Of course they aren’t the only ones that have been showing their generous hearts by donating. Many American stars like Lady Gaga and Britney Spears have also contributed to the disaster relief.
It’s so great to see so many people coming together to help Japan get back on its feet again. Although it will take some time, I really hope things will get better and everyone can return to their normal lives. Our thoughts and prayers are with everybody that has been affected by this devastating disaster.
