On today’s Daily Rant, I will rant and rave about: fanwars. You know, I’ve always wished for a world of peace where everyone loved one another and all views were accepted, differences acknowledged, and everyone coexisted…peacefully. But alas, my perfect world only exists in my dreams. Reality is harsh, I know. Which brings me to the topic of fanwars (like wars between countries, but amongst fans).

Fans are what they are: they like a certain person or group and they go just spazztic and bonkers when said favorite person and group comes out with something new. And of course, they will defend their idols to the bitter end, lashing out at anyone and anything that affects their beloved idols.

Case in point: Remember some time ago, some B2UTYs posted some unkind things about SHINee on where Shawols gather and Shawols retaliated? And it somewhat broke out into a small fight with B2UTYs on one side and Shawols on the other. Let’s face it: both are popular groups, both have their own loyal fanbases. Granted, BEAST rose in popularity much faster than SHINee did, but they are both unique and wonderful groups of their own. In fact, I became a Shawol upon my induction into the KPOP world. But that won’t stop me from loving BEAST.

And another example: Han Geng and Super Junior-M recently squared off in an online poll in which voters were asked which song left them with a “good feeling”. Han Geng’s “My Logo” easily topped the charts and never strayed away from the Top 3. Upon seeing this, some Super Junior-M fans started calling Han Geng a traitor and deserter and offended Han Geng fans took charge by retaliating and saying that SM was a bunch of blood suckers and so forth. It broke my heart when I read the news on this. I mean, how could these fans call themselves fans? I understand that they’re only trying to defend their beloved idols but it does no one any good by hating on other idols.

Those Super Junior fans aren’t the only ones that get into fanwars. Jaywalkerz and Hottests, Sones against the world, VIPs against the world, BlackJacks against the world, Cassies vs. JYJ fans. The list goes on and on. There are many articles out there that speak about a certain group and their taking of the top spot of some poll (best song, best digital sales, etc.). And when a certain group wins, it is a safe bet that another groups’ fans will be crying foul and demanding an explanation. Not only that, but they try to smear that group’s “win”.

It’s sad, it’s pathetic. Fans can sometimes act younger than their age to “prove” that their group is better. But is being better really the reason why you like a certain group? Probably not - it’s the group’s appeal, personality, unique charms that got you into that group in the first place.

My point? That fanwars are just pointless. I just wish that fans can accept when another group beats out their favorite group. And I really dislike seeing all that hate from fans to other fans because it seriously isn’t healthy at all. Trolling? Really, just congratulate that group instead of being mean and hateful. You would not believe how many articles I read where in comments, you see fans bashing one after another. Totally not cool. If only we channeled that energy for the better good.

My hope is that fans of all groups can come to appreciate all the groups that are out there, not just their own. After all, it is all those different and unique personalities that make KPOP what it is today, wouldn’t you agree?

Definitely agree. It pisses me off to pieces when I see these kind of wars, especially over little things or nothing at all. People seriously need to get themselves a reality check sometimes. It makes me sad to see some fans putting a bad name to that fanbase/group and attacking others. It not only hurts the whole community of your fan group but it also can be used against the group. 


fanwars are kind of sad in a way. but i guess it’s life.


fanwars? didnt like it, cause we all should apreciate others idol. even we didnt like it, but we should respect what others choose.

I agree so, so much! Lately, I’ve seen SHITLOAD of VIPs bashing BBCs and B2uties and it irks me to no end. But even if I’m not even part of one of the fandoms (like in any SME/YGE feud), it pisses me off. It’s just so ridiculous and stupid.
That’s why I always keep watch on what’s going on on my favourite bands’ official YT accounts, for example, and tell any fellow fan who somewhat comments in a extreme way that would lead to fights to calm down some notches.

Fanwars are pointless.  I have to agree.  Every group out there have their own unique qualities.  I think that they should just keep their bad comments to themselves.  But I don’t know if fanwars would ever end since they are so immature people out there. But I do hope that everyone could just get along.  All the groups out there are friends...so why can’t a fans be friends! =D

Thankfully I’m 26 years old and can stay away from such elementary things. If someone my age wants to act like a butthole, by all means go ahead. Its just proving to the world what a moron you are capable. My moronic level is unknown because I know I don’t need to fuss over...well nothing. Loving a certain band holds no amount of greatness if you can’t bend and move with someone’s opinions. Face it opinions are like @$$holes, everyone has one. I’m glad to be a fan but I agree, its sad to see this happening. And most importantly pathetic. I laugh at those who participated in the bashing of other groups. You are the most, selfish disrespectful bunch of people I know to exist on the interwebs. I’ve said it before, some of these girls need better hobbbies. And to those who know when its not worth it; I’ll be glad to befriend you.

I also think fanwars are pointless. I mean, the different idol groups don’t hate each other, so why should we fans create conflict between them when in fact, most groups are friends with each other. I wish fanwars would just stop.
