With the latest list of Kpop songs that should be banned being so popular and questions being asked about songs that are actually banned, we have created a list of 10 music videos that have actually been banned for various reasons. I just want to point out about the post with the songs that should be banned, that was all in Korean culture and music industry standards. It was to show how those songs weren’t the cleanest and yet somehow they weren’t banned but songs by other artists with similar content were banned. Now, for the list of 10 music videos that have been banned for various reasons and I must say, some reasons are completely illogical and just plain weird but then again, maybe in the Korean culture they are legitimate reasons so keep that in mind. Again, the list is in no specific order.
1. Rain’s ‘Love Song’
Reason for banning: Rain was running in the middle of the road which breaks the Korean traffic laws. Apparently, people wouldn’t have common sense enough to realize it is just a music video and you shouldn’t run in the street.
2. Sistar’s ‘How Dare You’
Reason for banning: Use of a stripper pole. At first, the actual song was banned for its content, not sure where in the song but that was before the music video was even released. So, avoid the use of stripper poles everyone, they will get you banned.
3. Lee Hyori’s ‘Chitty Chitty Bang Bang’
Reason for banning: People dancing on buses, not wearing a seatbelt, violating traffic rules (again), and of course, dancing in the street. See, some of the reasons I just can’t comprehend.
4. Infinite’s ‘Before the Dawn’
Reason for banning: Violent scenes. Seriously though, I don’t see why they banned it, the scenes weren’t even that bad. They didn’t even have blood splattering everywhere or any of that bad stuff.
5. Seungri’s ‘Strong Baby’
Reason for banning: They said ‘crack’ which would obviously support the use of drugs…….
6. T.O.P’s ‘Turn It Up’
Reason for banning: Indirect advertising. This is the reason they even banned some of Se7en’s songs. So pointless, everyone says brands in their songs and nobody cares most of the time.
7. G.D and T.O.P’s ‘Knock Out’
Reason for banning: Use of slang in the lyrics. So, because YG Entertainment didn’t want to change the songs title and overall meaning just because the broadcast channels banned it. Really though, they think slang will mess with the national psyche?
8. Hyunah’s ‘Change’
Reason for banning: It wasn’t actually banned, just slapped with the 19+ rating for KBS and the 15+ for SBS and MBC for sexual references. The song has a pretty deep meaning though when you look past Hyunah’s sexy/beastly dance moves so this is an age restriction fail.
9. Chaeyeon’s ‘Shake’
Reason for banning: Extreme sexual content. Basic enough and clearly expected from the Korean music networks. I definitely see why they would ban it though, especially at that one scene where they pretty much just stopped at her cleavage for a second. In the Korean industry, that is just a no-no.
10. Epic High’s ‘Breakdown’
Reason for banning: Violent scenes. Clearly, it is too violent for kids but I can honestly say it really is gruesome. So many weapons and blood.
So, you see the reasons vary, but sometimes the decisions to ban a music video are just completely uncalled for as seen from some of these music videos. I completely don’t understand how they banned Infinite’s ‘BTD’ or Seungri’s ‘Strong Baby’, but I could agree with the ‘Breakdown’ and ‘Shake’ decisions.
Which music videos do you think deserved or didn’t deserve the ban and what other music videos should have been up here?
