The summer season is rapidly approaching, and what is better for us Asian-song-addicted fans than listening to happy and bright Asian tunes fit for summer? 10 Hot Summer Jams can help you rid some of your hours of boredom and get you up and dancing to the beat!

1. Summer Time~ NEWS

I LOVE music videos by Japanese boy group NEWS. Also, Summer Time is one of my favorite songs by them, full of cheerfulness and youthfulness radiating from the tune. So cute. Lots of props used in this MV, and the boys really are just having a really fun time! If by chance this video is deleted, you may listen to the unplugged live version here.

2. Summer Dream~ DBSK

I miss the original DBSK so much! This Japanese single of theirs is really catchy and actually was one of the first DBSK songs I listened to. The switching of scenes from group to member in the MV was really cool, and don’t they look awesome in those white jackets and slacks? Loved when they all ride in the car, just cruising along and enjoying the view and each others’ company. Junsu’s copy-my-moves game was fun to watch. As for other DBSK summer themed songs, don’t forget Sky and Hi Ya Ya!

3. Cabi Song (Caribbean Bay)~ 2PM and SNSD

Looking for a more powerful tune? Check this one out! It’s got some pretty sweet beats, and the MV features what many people would call “hot bods.” I’ve got “C-A-B-I” stuck in my head, wonderful. Bet the water park got a lot of business just based on this CF alone, haha! This makes me want to go to a water park this summer.

4. Love Bingo~ The Boss

Compared to the other songs featured, this one is actually relatively new, one of The Boss’ new Japanese songs. The setting is based at the beach! And the boys are…wearing quite the ridiculous outfits. They are still cute though! I really like how they bring in more and more people to their dance sequence, creating a “High School Musical” feel to the music video. The bright colors and words that pop up on the screen make me happy. Going to the beach this summer, anyone?

5. Sunset Glow~ Big Bang

Gotta include a Big Bang song, right? This is one of my faves, and it is totally catchy and perfect for summer too. In the MV, Big Bang gathers many people to go take a trip to the beach while waving around signs bearing the words: “Let’s go west!” They get to watch the sunset, enjoy BB performing on top of the bus, splash around in the water, and go to an outdoor seafood market. Big Bang, come recruit me too the next time you go on a little trip!

6. Seaside (Boom Boom)~ SM Town Summer ‘09 feat. DBSK, Super Junior, & SHINee

What’s so neat about this song is that there are three SM Entertainment groups featured! I can definitely imagine myself at the seaside while listening to this fun tune. Lots of short solos, and they sound great all together as well! This fan-made video compiled different scenes from performances and MVs from the artists involved and matched a clip of a singer with his voice part during the song.

7. Dancing Out~ SM Town Summer ‘06 feat. Super Junior

Another fun tune, featuring Super Junior! Their enthusiasm makes me want to dance with them too. The areas they are featured in (indoors and outdoors) look like lovely vacation spots and tourist areas, such as a fancy hotel or resort by the ocean. The pool they jump into and play in looks so refreshing! Best of all, all 13 members were part of the MV. I miss those days… Another good Super Junior summer tune is “Carnival“, from SM Town Summer ‘09.

8. Wo You Wo De Young~ Fahrenheit

I actually heard this song playing inside a Disney-themed store in Hong Kong a couple years ago. And guess what time of the year it was? SUMMER! This song talks about youth and the energy behind it that we should be proud of. The tune is very upbeat and encouraging with the instruments such as trumpets, something that can brighten your day. Have fun and treasure your memories of each summer, as none are ever exactly the same!

9. My Boy~ SM Town Summer ‘02 feat. BoA

This song is part of the first SM Town Summer album. A very catchy and lovely piece, don’t you think? It’s lively but doesn’t seem to be “cutesy” or “bad girl-ish”. The song is actually about a girl declaring to a guy that she likes him and is the only one for her, wanting him to be her boy. A summer romance sounds sweet. BoA’s voice is amazing as always.

10. Under the Sea~ SM Town Summer ‘09 feat. Dana, Stephanie, Leeteuk, Kim Heechul, Yesung, Kangin, Eunhyuk, Donghae, Sungmin, Ryeowook and Zhang Liyin (Original by Samuel E. Wright)

Let’s wrap this up with a tune that most of us should know, “Under the Sea”, from the Disney movie The Little Mermaid, sung in Korean! More than half of the Super Junior members are part of this song, and a few ladies are featured too. Doesn’t it make you just want to get up and dance? I love this version of “Under the Sea”, and I hope you do too!

That concludes the list! Please forgive me for my pathetic lack of featuring female artists. From my past and limited knowledge, they don’t seem to promote summer themed songs as much as the guys (or as many concepts in general).. hmm.
