Many stars have shared their painful pasts before debuting in the entertainment industry on shows mostly like Strong Heart. They’ve vented about how they had to leave their parents and home, traveling to the big city, and the strenuous hours of a trainee.
Recently, 8Eight’s Lee Hyun made an appearance on Mnet’s “Director’s Cut” and shared his past story. Like many other KPOP singers, Lee Hyun participated in numerous singing competitions to obtain enough money to go to Seoul. But it wasn’t all that easy afterwards as he said, “However, since I had to get a place to stay and pay for academy attendance without my parents’ help, there wasn’t a lot of money left over for other necessities.”
If living by himself at a young age wasn’t enough, because of the lack of money, Lee Hyun’s diet was also affected. He revealed that he had only four packs ramen to ration for an entire week due to some hardships. “Now when I look back, I sometimes wonder how I managed to pull through those days.” You would never imagine that with the ripped and toned body he has today!
Overcoming those hardships has definitely paid off for Lee Hyun. He debuted in the music trio 8Eight back in 2007 and has since released his own solo mini-albums. Last month, he released a digital single “Although You Said So“, collaborating with Mighty Mouth. It’s always heart breaking to hear about all the hard times that idols have experienced, but it really does make you respect them more!
