SS501’s leader Kim Hyun Joong recently released his digital single, “Please“, and he definitely doesn’t need to say please for fans to listen to this new song which I found very addictive right from the first time I heard it. Love how all the members of the group have been releasing such amazing solo songs! I really want them all to make a comeback together soon.
Please listen to “Please” again below!
First of all, I am a huge fan of many songs involving a pretty piano intro, including Taeyang’s “Wedding Dress“, U-Kiss‘ “0330“, Big Bang’s “Lies” and “Haru Haru“, DBSK’s “She“…I think you get my point. “Please” had a mid-range to low lovely start, and the orchestra added a sweetness to it. Then came in the more pop feel to help keep the beat and add excitement.
Hyun Joong sings SO well. The slight huskiness to his soft voice makes the song more intriguing, and the emotion of one being hurt clearly shows through. The chorus is so heavenly, I immediately fell in love. It was a very catchy ballad that drew me in, as I have expressed before how picky I am about those slower and less intense songs, hehe.
Most memorable lines for me which got stuck in my head:
“I just don’t get it, get it.
Why dont you get it, get it”
As for what the song is about, the girl blames the guy for everything that goes wrong in their relationship when in reality, the guy is the victim of the broken relationship. She is the one who cheats, lies, accuses, taking his love and killing it. Their so-called love for each other is fake, and the guy is suffering at her expense. He says they should just move on, because there is no turning back and there’s no telling if they will be able to work their issues in their “romance” out. You know the phrase “It takes one to know one”? Saying that, maybe he himself has done the same mistake in a past relationship. At the end, the guy tells her not to go. Um, contradicting much? Maybe he has mixed feelings and decides he doesn’t want to let the girl go after all, hoping for a change.
I give this song a 5 out of 5! Honestly, there isn’t one thing I don’t like about this track, plus, it has made its way into my list of favorite Korean ballads (very rare!). Go Hyun Joong!
