Ah, age. That lovely number that defines how old you are. But you know, most people don’t know your age, so they base your age on how you look. Ever had those moments where people either thought you were younger or older than your actual age? I know I’ve had that - when I was younger, people thought I was older than I actually was, but now as I’m older, people think I’m younger than I actually am. So what about our favorite Korean idols? Which ones look older than their age?
The maknae of 2PM by less than a month, Chansung is also the second tallest in his group. When you think of tall height, you tend to think older. But Chansung was born February 11, 1990, making him 21 years old this year (22 in Korean age). When I first saw him, I thought he was old, around Taecyeon’s age. But I was surprised to find out that he was a maknae! Guess that beastly idolness makes him look much older than he actually is!
Im Seulong of 2AM may look old but he just turned 23 (24) less than a month ago (May 11, 1987). His facial features don’t look like those of his age. Regardless of his age, he has a terrific voice.
Sooyoung carries around a “big sister” feel around her, which is why even though she’s the same age as fellow member Yoona, she’s often mistaken to be one of the older members. Born February 10, 1990, don’t let her “protective unnie” personality fool you!
Davichi’s Kang Minkyung
One half of the talented duo that is Davichi, her powerful voice that sing emotional songs with fellow member Hyeri can lead fans to think that is in her mid-20s. But like you, I was surprised to find out that she was born on August 3, 1990, which makes her 21 (22) this year. Aren’t you surprised?
BEAST’s maknae, Dongwoon, is the tallest amongst his fellow members, but his deep voice and mature look would make an average person think he was at least in his 20s. But Dongwoon, who celebrates his birthday in a couple days on June 6, was born in 1991. You’re kidding me, right?
After School’s UEE
UEE may only be 23 (24; born April 9, 1988), but she has drawn comparisons to actress Go Hyun Jung. The latter played Mishil in Queen Seon Duk, while the former played the younger counterpart of Mishil. Either UEE looks older or Go Hyun Jung looks younger! That and being in a sexy girl group such as After School doesn’t help much, right?
BIG BANG’s Seungri
I for sure thought that Seungri was older. He looks older than Daesung, who I would’ve thought was the maknae. But no, I was pleasantly (or was I?) surprised when I found out Seungri was the maknae (December 12, 1990). I guess you can never judge a book by its cover. I mean, after all, Daesung released a song titled “Cotton Candy”, which was so cute, bubbly, and happy, and Seungri’s songs, VVIP and What Can I Do?, had more of a mature feeling to them.
Yet another maknae. Shim Changmin was born on February 18, 1988, yet he debuted with DBSK almost a decade ago! At time of debut, he was only 15 years old. And with his group members all born in 1986, you would’ve thought he was their age as well.
The sexy rapper of 4minute, Hyuna is known for her sexy dancing skills. With her solo song “Change” and the dance that was banned and given a mature rating, one would’ve thought differently about her age. But be amazed - this young lady will be turning 19 (20) on the same day as fellow Cube member Dongwoon (June 6, 1992).
A Pink’s Yoo Kyung
Another Cube Entertainment member. While some girls her age would have a carefree look about them, YooKyung gives off a sense of maturity and a feeling of confidence. With her piercing looks, it’s hard to imagine that she will only be turning 17 year olds (18) later this year on September 22.
Who would’ve thought these idols would look older than they actually are? It’s hard to believe that some of these members have been veterans in the music industry and look older, but haven’t even come of age yet.
Do you agree with this list? If not, which idols do you think should’ve made the cut?
