The fourth and final stop of JYJ (Jaejoong, Yoochun, Junsu)’s World Tour in the U.S and Canada was held on June 3, 2011 at the Event Center in San Jose State University.
Before the concert began, the Northern California fans over at JYJ4SF organized a fan made fanmeet that lasted from 3pm-6pm at the lawn across the Event Center Arena. With plenty of opportunities to play for prizes, fans were more than happy to participate and have a great time! Also the distributing of fanchants, fansigns to be used during “In Heaven,” finger lights and Mickey head bands were distributed at this time. It was exciting and fun to see fans interact with each other and gush their excitement out even before the show began.
As fans had fun meeting each other and plenty of people with prizes in hand, the opening doors at 7pm had fans excitedly starting to get in line. At first it didn’t look like a full house as many seats were left unoccupied but as it got close to 8pm, fans started to swarm in and take up the space.
As soon as it hit 8:07 PM the buzzing venue went dark and was quickly filled up with a bright red ocean welcoming the boys onto the stage. Kicking off the start of the concert was Track 3, “Empty,” off their global album “The Beginning.” Just when the shrieks of excitement couldn’t get any louder, once the powerful beats and choreography of the song began, the piercing screams were deafening! Performing in transparent boxes definitely set up the mood of this powerful dance track. As the last beats echoed throughout the venue, the music transitioned to JaeJoong’s self composed and self written song “Ideal Scenario (I.D.S)” before switching it up to his song “Nine.” Their husky velvet voices on the latter song nicely set a calming mood in contrast to “Empty” but by no means did fans stop screaming! It wasn’t until “Nine” started to play that fans were struck in awe at the beautiful and soft melodies of this ballad.
After these three back to back performances, JYJ took a short break to address the audience:
Then they continued with their next song “Pierrot.” Also composed and written by JaeJoong, this mesmorizing performance was set up nicely as their female back up dancers were dressed as pierrot tutu wearing girls. Although the back up dancers performance was great during the song, it could not even begin to compare once the Rodney Jerkins-composed track “Be My Girl” started to play. Displaying the manly and sexy side of JYJ, it didn’t take long until everyone around me started to scream their heads off. Yes, the power of the hip thrusts were amazing!
At this point I could hear that fans needed a break on their throats from screaming so much so it was a good thing a video showing images of their photoshoot for their “The Beginning” album started to play. Once the video was over, we were met with a new outfit change for “Be the One” and “Ayy Girl.” Pumping up the audience once again, it was soon time to great the audience for the most awaited, or dreaded part of the concert— the solo performances!
Kicking off the solos, Yoochun’s “I Love You” started the screams of jealousy. Approaching all his female dancers in an intimate manner was not exactly what fans, or atleast I, would have liked but he did a great job regardless. Next there was a booming drum performance that got the adrenaline pumping with happy energy again. As if the piercing drums weren’t enough, the stage took on a new look announcing the beginning of “Mission.” Then it was time for the second solo with Junsu’s “I Can Soar,” followed by JaeJoong’s “Still in Love.” As pretty as the ballads sounded, the rising jealousy amongst fans did not go unnoticed. Since they were the last two performances where the boys got intimate with their female dancers, that jealousy quickly subsided.
Time for another outfit change, the dancers took the stage for a special dance while JYJ were backstage. Soon enough we were greated with popular song from Korean drama Sung Kyun Kwan Scandal, “Chajatta (Found You)!” Definitley a crowd pleaser as everyone joined in singing the whole song with smiles and arms waving everywhere throughout the whole song, we could see the popularity of the song will be long before it dies out. They briefly addressed the audience once again where fans tried to sing Happy Birthday for Yoochun but failed because to calm the adrenaline rush, the next two ballads “Fallen Leaves” and “Boy’s Letter” had the three belt out powerful and pleasant vocals. The emotion and effort put into the song was just so amazing that fans were quiet in awe.
Picking up the mood of the show again, we soon were greeted by the fun and upbeat flashmob song “Be My Girl (Remix).” Since there was a dance tutorial video playing before the concert began, fans were eager and tried their best to give JYJ a fun and great flashmob to watch. At this point everyone was happily dancing along and smiling along with JYJ. Surprisingly after, the concert was interrupted… why? In order to sing Happy Birthday to Yoochun!
Not letting the mood die out, their tracks “You’re” and “Get Out” followed, creating a frenzy all over the venue– especially as they performed while still wearing the Mickey ears! As soon as the upbeat tempos were fading away, all three members left the stage. Creating worry and confusion amongst fans, we didn’t want to believe it was over so we all started to desperately chant “JYJ.” After what felt like forever, we soon saw JYJ pop out again with their white and red concert t-shirts as a remix of “Empty” blasted.
Afterwards, the trio left once again, acting as if the show had ended. Feeling their happiness being depleted, the fans started chanting “JYJ” even louder than before. Hearing the fans chants, JYJ came out for the last song of the night, “In Heaven.” The beautiful melody accompanied by the breathtaking voices of the three members was the perfect song to end an unforgettable night.
I have witnessed JYJ live twice before, once during their showcase in Los Angeles back in 2010 and again at their most recent Los Angeles stop a few weeks before. This being the third time I’ve seen them live in concert, it’s clear I won’t ever get tired of seeing and hearing them live– all of their vocals are just too amazing! I can’t wait until they announce another concert in the U.S, I’ll be sure to go as well. This is it until next time so don’t forget to check out the rest of the pictures below!

the concert was amazing!!
I was gonna go, but I didn’t get paid until afterwards, so I couldn’t :( But Big Bang is supposed to have a concert there on the 18th...although, with Daesung’s incident, I don’t know if it’s going to happen after all...I can totally go to Big Bangs.
