Today’s Daily Rant is mainly about KPOP and its ability to consume people. When I got into KPOP it was around 2004, and looking back I have changed a lot. Other KPOP fan friends of mine will agree on this, as they also spend more time on computers than they did before. It can also change some peoples friendship groups. I know it sounds silly but it’s true.

When I was in school, I was labeled a ‘Asian-freak’ for a lot of the time, since no one else listened or liked Kpop. I would stay up all night watching variety shows and music performances, losing out on sleep. Is Kpop really changing people like this? I never was so obsessed with idols before I started liking Kpop and now I have posters up and I watch my idols all the time. Was it because of Kpop that this happened?

I’m sure it’s happened to more people than just myself and my friends, but I think as well it can be like a contest for some people. Who knows more about which idol group or who knows more dances and things like that — KPOP can be stressful as well as enjoyable. People can become a bit too obsessed as well, and thats when you get sasaeng fans and also fan wars. It’s normal for fans to love their idols but when it effect’s their own lives and the way they behave is that going a bit too far?

Do you think KPOP changed you in any way? Or are you still the same as you were? I think sometimes KPOP can change some ones lifestyle to the extreme while others just enjoy the music and don’t get changed as much.

Kpop is definitely important, but i don’t think i’d let it take over my life. I will spazz about it to my friends who know nothing about it, but i know when to draw the line when they get annoyed, so i think everythin is about balance ^^ like too much of anything is bad right?

Man… I can’t even remember when I wasn’t listening to K-Pop!

i use to always listen to american rock music, and spanish. the i added japanese. I would listen to jpop/rock but still know many american songs that where out. I would listern to the the radio. Once i saw Triangle by dbsk, i was hooked. I only listen to music on my ipod and computer. I havent touched my radio in years. I never really know any of the lastest song in here in america. My family say im not american anymore. They say im asian at heart.

It changed me for the better ^^ That’s for sure. I’m on my way to be the best I can be :3

KPOP has changed me so much
I am like so obsessed lol
all my money is like gone from buying merchandise
and I keep bowing to people when I saw hi which is kind of weird in Australia xD
lol thanks for sharing :D

I agree..kpop totally changed me! Now im really obsessed with it :D
thanks for sharing!

so true. i totally got obsessed with kpop and let it affect my school work. but now i actually learned to balance everything

I totally agree. When I found kpop my friends kinda got into it too but when we moved to highschool, they told me that they grew out of listening to kpop and jpop. I still haven’t and I’ve found an entirely new group of friends that either like kpop or don’t mind that I like it.

Agree with you :D
I started to spend more time on my computer when I found Kpop :D
I don’t even talk about Kpop to my friends becouse I know they would probably roll their eyes or think like:’okay o.O’ raspberry

Definitely agree. In my group of friends, some of them stopped talking to others because all that would come out of their mouths was something about kpop. And after a while, people just started to get sick of it.

I think it’s normal for people to discover something, like it, and have a phase where they dedicate a lot of time to it. It’ll be over before you know it, probably.

it’s changed a bit.
i spend more time on the computer and less time on tv.
but other than that, not much.

um yes, totally changed me in a lot of ways xD I use to spend like around 2 hours in computer but now almost the whole day xD oh and I don’t listen to american music anymore. so whenver my friends talk about this certain song, I just can’t relate and one thing for sure, consumes a lot of money as in A LOT. on the brighter side, it made me love learning different cultures and languages xD Oh, and it also made me learn how to save money :D

well..I don’t compete who knows more about Korean idol because I don’t have friends who are interested in Kpop or Kdrama..I only feel lonely for not having people to share with my interest

I’ve always enjoyed watching animes and reading manga, but it wasn’t until 2010 that I got onto kpop, and I have to say, it changed me quite a lot. I spend a LOT of time on the computer, I’m constantly reading up on idols, and it’s all I ever listen to. It’s not like I’m losing any sleep(I still go to bed at the same time as before), but I do spend almost all of my time on the computer. But it’s not as bad as my parents might make it out to be. I’ve made a lot of new friends, and have even set up some goals for myself in the future ^^

When i very first got into Kpop, it was ALL i watched and listened too. I was obsessed when it came to SHINee and BigBang. It didn’t change my friends group as much as i added new friends into my group instead. But now that my obsessions have settled down i enjoy kpop much more, I’m able to like all new groups and old groups that are new too me. I’m back to my old self but i now have broadened horizons.

Ive always like asian culture and watched animes with my brother since as long as i could remember i was introduced to kpop though someone who became my friend when we bonded over anime and cute things, i dont thnk ive changed to much trough kpop because its just another part of asian culture that i enjoy but i totally agree with you on the staying up late thing… i used to watch like 3 drama episodes a night… losing 3 hours of sleep raspberry not that fun being sleep deprived XD

Forgot to mention!! I have more virtual(computer) friends from another countries than real friends!!
Really change my life!! Everything kpop \m/

I so totally agree with you!!
Watching kpop show late at night and not able to sleep to watch the whole show!
This is really true!! :]
thanx for sharing!! :]

KPOP got me for sure. I never used to interested with idols and such, but now my walls are cover with posters of my favorite bands, you will never see me without my ipod that only has KPOP music, and my computer.... I don’t even want to go there… So yes I’m obsessed and proud of it!

Ooooh yeah.  I’m not sure what it is about Kpop that got me, and my friends, so obsessed.  I like to think everything happens for a reason, and if it weren’t for Kpop I wouldn’t be in Korea right now teaching English.  I’m not saying I’m here BECAUSE of Kpop; more that it reminded me that this was something I could do, instead of just living day-to-day in a meh job that didn’t pay well.  Now I’m in an awesome country doing something amazing, and with some luck I might run into some idols wink.  Wish me luck!

Kpop totally changed me. But aside from draining my wallet from buying albums and stuff, I’m happy because I got to meet a lot of people and became friends with them. And you could also say Kpop brought me and my friends closer as well. :]

Kpop totally changed me XD but I think as long as it doesn’t take over your life then it is not unhealthy XD

I have to agree with you. Now think about kpop makes me think about how to earn more money. Whenever I have spare time (or not) I spent it watching MV or korean tv show
But a good side is now I have more friends from other countries,it’s interesting XD

I’ve always been into Asian culture, but before Kpop I listened entirely to various types of American rock music. Alternative, metal, hard, etc…

Now, since I’ve started listening to Kpop, I can barely listen to anything else! Also, with my blind adoration of Kpop, I’m started listening to and accepting/loving American pop music. Although, I believe that it’s still not as amazing as Kpop. XD

But I still listen to my old stuff. ;D
