We don’t change our homepage very often. We know how that when people get used to something, they don’t like it to change. Since we last redesigned the homepage sometime in September of last year, we’ve added a lot of new things, Voices, Reward Center, Mixr Legions, Events, the recently launched Pixs, and the recently added Reactions. Plus we average about 40+ blog posts a day. All these additions and increased editorial output necessitated a redesign. However, the homepage features more than just a new look. A lot of time was spent refining our method for determining trending news. We’re now able to predict a Rising Trend, a news article that is trending at a very fast velocity. The new homepage will automatically mark such an article so you know right away, what’s a hot article to read.

Another noteworthy change is the little reaction icons over an article’s thumbnail. They show if an article is trending for a particular reaction. So if a lot of people “heart” an article, the little heart icon appears over the thumbnail. If a lot of users reacted with “LOL” on an article, a LOL icon appears. At the time of this writing, there’s three trending articles on Ningin that has caused heartbreak among our users. I guess today has been a sad day of news.

The previous homepage had a lot of info about a lot of different areas of Ningin. We tried to do this redesign without eliminating too much since we knew everyone used all the various sections differently. That way, you should be able to adjust to this new layout rather quickly. Again, we know some of you hate change, especially if it’s changing something that’s not broken, but this was necessary.

Right now, Ningin is a very busy site with tens of thousands of people daily and tons of things going on all at once. We believe that the new layout conveys a pretty good snapshot of all that activity. We hope you agree.

Sounds pretty good. If it’s really in need to change it, then by all means. Eventually we will get use to it again (: Just as long as things aren’t to complicated lol Looking forward to it!
