After this little rant on autotune, I was inspired to find some songs that just go overkill on autotune. Yes, there are songs that use autotune well and well, there are songs that just make my ears bleed.

4Minute - Muzik
“Please don’t stop the music.” I’m sorry, ladies, but when I hear most of the song with autotune, I do want to stop the music. It might have a catchy and addicting beat, but I cringe at the use of autotune here. When all members have autotune over their voice? Nuh-uh. Next song.

SISTAR - Push Push
This song not only annoyed me to death (sorry to all of you SISTAR fans) but when you have two members in their debut get slapped with autotune all over when they’re singing, that’s not a good sign. Definitely not a good sign. And compared with Hyorin and Bora singing without autotune, it’s an icky mess. Luckily, they were able to “push push” their way into better songs, which made them one of the top rookie girl groups.

Son Dambi - Queen
I love Son Dambi’s voice. But EVERY SINGLE TIME this song was performed on music shows, I turned off all sound. Why would you overly use autotune here?! The song itself is decent; I see no real reason of autotune’s usage. It also led to rumors that she couldn’t sing. “Wake up”, Pledis, and stop giving Son Dambi autotuned music. Give her more songs like “Can’t U See”.

Co-Ed - Too Late
Dislike, dislike, dislike, dislike. Rookies to the KPOP scene, every person’s voice is basically autotuned. Even Chanmi, who actually has a good voice. Pretty much every single line is autotuned. My ears bleed red, they cry every time they hear this song. And the guys don’t even sing that much in this song. You autotune them too much and too often, they’ll sound as if they can never sing without autotune and it’ll be “too late” to change that image. Luckily, “Bbiribbom Bberibbom” was somewhat better.

2NE1 - Can’t Nobody
I’ve actually taken a liking to this fierce girl group. But YG, I don’t care if you use autotune stylistically to make 2NE1 and BIG BANG different from the rest of the pack. There’s a limit to how much you can use autotune WITHOUT OVERKILLING it. Every time I listen to a 2NE1, I’m always bracing myself for the autotune. Always. Come on, CL has a really good voice, Dara’s improved, and Minzy is fierce. It’s a good thing you don’t autotune Park Bom’s voice; otherwise, I would probably stop listening to the group.

Girl’s Day - Tilt My Head
So what if the concept was more about robot and futurism? No no no. This song was annoying (for me at least) and the use of autotune didn’t help much. Many people cringed after hearing this song and almost gave up on the five girls. Thankfully for all of us, they were able to revamp their image and give us more powerful songs. But when you have a song like this as your debut song, good luck. You’ll need it.

2NE1 - Clap Your Hands
Oh, hello there, 2NE1. You make my list again. Why am I not surprised? Again, only Park Bom’s with little autotune, everyone else is autotuned. Save my ears, ok?

Teen Top - Supa Luv
You’ve got that soup I love? Oh, I’m sorry, you mean “Supa Luv”. Couldn’t quite understand you there. This song may be catchy, but it’s that robotic, futuristic sound again. And that means autotune. Sorry, Teen Top, you have synchronized dancing and all, but I dislike autotune. Please don’t use too much autotune for your next song!

T-ara - Bo Peep Bo Peep
I cry. A lot. There’s no real need for autotune. If you want a catchy tune, the “Bo Peep Bo Peep” would’ve been the kicker, but autotune just kept me away from liking the song. Ok, granted, it’s not as bad as other songs, but wae you must use it?

BIG BANG’s Taeyang - Prayer
Why, Teddy, must you autotune Taeyang’s voice?! Why why why?! His voice seriously doesn’t need autotune. Oh my goodness, his voice is so much different with autotune. I do not want Taeyang to be autotuned. He doesn’t need it. Again, I don’t care if it’s for the style. His voice is FINE.

I realize that a lot of girl groups get autotuned. Or maybe it’s just the ones I really notice. Do you agree with this list? Which ones would you suggest?
