10 of the worst idol group names

Group names are one of the first things fans notice, and also what is used to distinguish one group from another. With this said, many would think that companies would take more time and effort when naming a group. However, there are many idol groups who have debuted with names that makes one ask, “Just what were these companies thinking?” Lets take a look at the 10 worst idol group names.

10. BEAST is short for “Boys Of East Standing Tall.” The name has such a cheesy meaning that that I tend to “forget” that it means more than it sounds. I would prefer they just throw away the cheesy meaning and leave it as BEAST, as in those dangerous and sexy creatures. Though they’re not really that beastly to be honest…

9. U-KISS stands for “Ubiquitous Korean International (Idol) Super Star.” Yet again another long and cheesy name. Not only does the meaning sound lame, but the abbreviation sounds strange also. Just imagine Americans passing by and hearing fans chant “YOU KISS! YOU KISS!” They’ll think it was some sort of gathering for English learners. Also, these high and mighty names are quite embarrassing when the group doesn’t live up to it.

8. F.Cuz is actually pronounced “focus,” but no matter how many times that’s repeated, I will always forget and refer to them as “Eff cuz.” Why not make it easier on us fans and just name them “Focus”? Sure, it doesn’t sound any better but at least people will remember to chant out “FOCUS!” instead of “EFF CUZ!” at concerts. An American would think fans were cursing at them.

7. MBLAQ stands for “Music Boys Live in Absolute Quality.” A bit cheesy if you ask me. In fact, it kind of sounds like some cheesy and meaty breakfast meal.

6. H.O.T. is the acronym for “High-five Of Teenagers.” Um, what? I get that they’re trying to say that they’re a group that’s in with teenagers, but really? I’m sure they could have come up with something better than that. I would prefer if they just drop the periods in their name and leave it as “HOT.”

5. ZE:A is also known as Children of Empire. Sounds like someone just threw a few alphabet letters together to make their name. Very creative indeed.

4. SHU-I stands for “So Hot Unity of Idols.” Calling yourselves hot is just asking for people to criticize your looks. Though if the members were all hot, then people wouldn’t care much, but how often does an idol group have members that are all drop dead gorgeous? I honestly can’t name any off the top of my head. Besides that, what does “so hot unity of idols” even mean? Obviously, we have another company who is just trying to go for an acronym that sounds cool and doesn’t care about the meaning behind it at all.

3. LPG is short for “Long Pretty Girls.” Liquefied petroleum gas anyone? Calling themselves long and pretty also comes off as arrogant, and not to mention random. Who refers to people as long? “Why, you’re so long and pretty!”

2. CHI CHI is short for “Creative electronic House Idols,” but where did the “e” in electronic go? What does it even mean and why did they have to repeat it twice? I’m guessing their company named them without realizing that “chichi” is also slang for female breasts in Japanese. Good luck with your debut in Japan girls.

1. H.A.M. is short for “Heart & Mind,” but before anyone learns of that, they’ll be turned off by the name. When will companies learn that abbreviating words to make any random English word does not make it cool? Poor group, will always be overshadowed by meat on google. Now I want a ham sandwich.

Not sure if this is a coincidence or not, but the top five worst group names are all names of the less popular groups. Of course, if their music is good, it shouldn’t matter if the name is “Ham” or “Toast.” Still, it would be nice if fans could be proud of their bias group’s name and chant it loud and clear.
