Today’s Daily Rant talks about the inconceivable fuss that kicks up when netizens discover discrepancies with idols’ stated heights and their perceived heights on the screen. What’s the big deal?

I always find it quite amusing when netizens start making a fuss about an idol’s or actor’s height on TV and how it doesn’t match the “official” height listed on the official website. Really, what’s the matter? Is it so bad that people want to be taller than they actually are? A lot of people would love to be taller and would want to find a way to grow an extra few inches. But you know, TV can always distort heights. There’s also the issue of the ground that they’re standing on. It doesn’t necessarily have to be flat ground - there could be a little incline that could change heights.

Say Idol A is listed at 6′. Idol B is listed at 5′9. The two appear on the same show and bam! They look the same height. Netizens will cry foul, but here’s some food for thought: netizens, have you ever thought that maybe Idol B doesn’t like their tall height and downgrades their height on their website/facts, making it seem like they’re shorter than their real height? Bet you didn’t think of that. I know some people who don’t like their tall height and would prefer to be a few inches shorter.

But honestly, I don’t see the harm in height differences. Do I love an idol for their height or for their personality and charms? Definitely the latter. Just because they’re “shorter” than they claim doesn’t make me love them less. They are who they are - to me, appearances don’t matter.

TBH heights don’t matter at all.


i’m pretty short wish i was taller but it’s nobody’s business to get mad at what i announce publicly so basically i don’t care what idols say about their heights people shouldn’t be looking around every 5 seconds to try to catch them lying

So true & even though appearances matter me A BIT, I’d never make a fuss for the idol’s height. That’s just stupid. 


I actually couldn’t care less about idol heights, whether they lie about it or they just are short. I mean, people love higher heights, and it looks better on shows and performances. But seriously?

Short idols can be just as amazing, adorable, and get tons of fans like us. Just look at our amazing, awesome, bling bling Jonghyun. He is the shortest member, but we love him just as much--or a lot of times more. And Taeyeon from SNSD, the awesome singer with undoubtful talent. Who said that they hated her because of her height? Small body, but explosive talent.

Lastly, SNSD Sunny. I actually don’t know any idols shorter than that. But you know what? I love Sunny. We’re the same height. And her singing skills, varity show ability, and dancing ability is just as amazing. So who said idols have to be tall?


i agree that most idols should be honest about their heights!!! im kinda short but i love my height and i don’t try to make my self taller with heels. im a girl i should like wearing heels but i don’t cuz i like my height. smile

I dont care if theyre tall or short, i still love them smile but its probably a self esteem thing, if a male is shorter than a female, it kind of makes the guy feel bad. Its always really funny to hear stories about insoles and such tho XD

I totally agree! Besides, if the discrepancies is just a few inches, then what’s wrong with that? Also, if you really like an idol, then their height shouldn’t matter at all, though of course there are those of us who wish we could be as tall as them.
