Okay, let’s admit it. The next best thing for us KPOP lovers besides KPOP is watching Korean dramas. Am I right? We’ve seen the creativity of script writers through all types of dramas, whether it be a romantic comedy, suspense, or a melodrama. Dramas have great actors, plots, and also some have beautiful music. Let’s take a look at some amazing OST songs.
Hyun Bin’s “That Man” from the “Secret Garden” OST
One of the most popular dramas in 2010-2011 was “Secret Garden”. Starring Hyun Bin and Ha Ji Won, the drama took home numerous awards as well as the hearts of viewers. Singer Baek Ji Young participated in the OST with the song “That Woman” and later, Hyun Bin recorded his own version. Needless to say, the song received explosive popularity and swept music charts.
Jisun’s “Crazy in Love” from the “Shining Inheritance” OST
The drama “Shining Inheritance” starring Han Hyo Joo and Lee Seung Gi also made waves in 2009. The drama was #1 in its time slot for almost all of its episodes and took home 7 awards at the 2009 SBS Drama Awards. Former Loveholic member Jisun sang “Crazy in Love” for the OST and flaunted her beautiful vocals.
SNSD’s Taeyeon’s “If” from the “Hong Gil Dong” OST
In 2008, the drama “Hong Gil Dong” aired and SNSD’s leader Taeyeon participated in the original soundtrack. She sang the beautiful song “If” and it instantly became a favorite among fans. There’s a reason why she’s the main lead vocalist of SNSD, her singing is breathtaking!
Shin Seung Hoon’s “Love of Iris” from the “IRIS” OST
Shin Seung Hoon. One of the greatest South Korean ballad singers of all time. This man’s voice is just absolutely amazing and it can be seen through the song “Love of Iris” from the drama “IRIS”. His voice is so emotional and you can’t help but to replay the song!
Shin Seung Hoon’s “I Believe” from the “My Sassy Girl” OST
Alright, alright. So “My Sassy Girl” is not a drama, but a film. A good film might I say. Starring Jun Ji Hyun and Cha Tae Hyun, this 2001 film went on to become the highest grossing Korean comedy of all time and was a mega blockbuster. The theme song was sung by none other than Shin Seung Hoon and this song is without a doubt one of the most popular OST songs out there.
JYJ’s “Found You” from the “Sungkyunkwang Scandal” OST
JYJ’s Yoochun made his Korean acting debut with “Sungkyunkwang Scandal” alongside Park Min Young. The drama went on to be very successful and his fellow JYJ members helped him out by recording the amazing song “Found You” for its OST. They performed the song at the KBS Drama Awards, which was definitely special as it was their first performance since the lawsuit.
SHINee’s “Stand By Me” from the “Boys Over Flowers” OST
After a Japanese version and a Taiwan version, “Boys Over Flowers” made its way to Korea in 2009. The drama skyrocketed the careers for those who starred in it and helped spread the Hallyu wave immensely. Boy group SHINee took part in the OST and sang “Stand By Me” which made me love this drama 10 times more.
Super Junior’s Kyuhyun’s “Hope is a Dream That Doesn’t Sleep” from the “King of Baking: Kim Tak Goo” OST
“King of Baking” was also a super popular drama during its airing time, having a viewer rating of a 50.8%. The entire drama was filled with emotions and viewers loved the underdog vs. society theme. Super Junior’s Kyuhyun flaunted his magnificent vocals for the OST and we can understand why the idol is one of the main vocalists. “Hope is a Dream That Doesn’t Sleep” is an absolutely amazing song, even the title is emotional!
Super Junior’s Yesung’s “It Has to Be You” from the “Cinderella’s Sister” OST
Another Super Junior member that has fantastic vocals? None other than the philtrum loving Yesung! He sang “It Has to Be You” for the OST for “Cinderella’s Sister” back in 2010. The drama itself was very intense (emotion-wise) and this track is overflowing with emotions. I can never get tired of this song, where is the love button?
Lee Bo Ram’s “The Place Where We First Met” from the “Full House” OST
In 2004, Rain and Song Hye Kyo starred in the popular drama “Full House” and was considered one of the main reasons for the expansion of the Hallyu wave. Former SeeYa member Lee Bo Ram recorded this song for the OST and it instantly became a hit. Her powerful vocals made the song perfect for the drama.
