Super Junior is set to make their comeback on August 3rd with their fifth album, “Mr. Simple“. Fans are going ecstatic over the number of teasers released and are anxiously waiting for their beloved boys to come back. However, these past few days have been filled with a little more emotion for member Siwon.

On July 22nd, Siwon’s grandmother, unfortunately, passed away. It was known that he was extremely close to her, so losing her no doubt brought a great deal of pain to him. Adding on to that, he’s been busy wrapping up filming for his Taiwanese drama “Skip Beat!” with fellow member Donghae. On top of that, he’s got “Mr. Simple” preparations, dance practice, and everything. Now, he’s been hit with a drinking “controvery”. You’ll find out why I put quotation marks around ‘controversy’ because this whole thing is just ridiculous.

On July 28th, the cast and crew of the drama “Skip Beat!” held their farewell party. It’s a given that when you’re at one of these kinds of celebratory parties, there’s going to be alcohol involved (that is, of course, if you’re at the appropriate age). While the night was supposed to end on a good note, Siwon has been getting reprimanded for his actions there. He was seen to be a little bit drunk while leaving the party, and was also seen hugging some female staff members and kissing them on the forehead. Because of these actions, he’s been receiving backlash from netizens.

My whole take on this? I find this whole thing ridiculous. It’s not like Siwon was drinking a ton or smoking crack. He was drinking in celebration of “Skip Beat!” filming coming to an end. Plus, the guy is 25 years old. He’s old enough and mature enough to make his own decisions. To make things even worse, people are bashing him when he just lost someone dear to his heart. I feel that some people forget that idols are still regular people, they deserve to have a little freedom in their lives. Normal people aren’t prohibited from drinking, so why should idols be an exception? And the whole ‘kissing’ part. Super Junior members have kissed their fans’ heads numerous of times. I don’t see anybody bashing them because of that.

I just feel so bad for Siwon right now. He’s going through a tough time and when promotions kick in, his energy is going to be drained even more. Instead of bashing him, people should be supporting him and helping him get through this tough time.
