Let’s go back to before he even debuted. Originally, Donghae had wanted to be an athlete. But, his father’s wish was for Donghae to become a singer to fulfill the dream he himself had but couldn’t obtain. Donghae at first refused, but then ended up auditioning, his father giving him the money for it. When his father passed away in August 2006, Fishy dedicated his thank you in SuJu’s 4th album almost entirely to him. His father entrusted Donghae under leadja Leeteuk’s care.

Here is some of what he contributed to Super Junior and other forms of entertainment to date:

-In late 2007, Donghae was placed in sub group Super Junior M, which then debuted on April 8, 2008 with first single “U“’s music video.

-Did you know that Donghae was among one of the first four Korean artists to appear on Chinese postage stamps?

-In late 2009, he self-composed, wrote and sang “Beautiful“, which was part of the Super Show 2: The 2nd Asia Tour. He himself expressed that he would like to produce more songs in the future if he were given the opportunity and time.

-Donghae was the one who composed 여행 (A Short Journey), which is in Super Junior’s 4th 미인아 (Repackage) album.

-He was the main person behind the composition and writing of the fun and short Super Junior “Logo Song” for Strong Heart! He sang in it too.

-Donghae composed OST song “Just Like Now” for Korean Drama “It’s Okay, Daddy’s Girl” and sang it with Ryeowook! He also starred in the drama itself, being Wookgi, one of the three brothers.

-His acting debut was made in Super Junior’s horror documentary “Mystery 6“, back in early 2006. The documentary was about how his character could see and feel ghosts.

-First lead appearance in a music video was in BoA’s Korean version of “Key of Heart” in 2006, where he played a human turned cyborg.

-Donghae’s official acting debut was in Super Junior’s debut film, “Attack of the Pin-Up Boys.”

-In late 2007, he was featured in SNSD’s music video for “Kissing You“.

-Kyuhyun and he appeared in and sang for the product commercial “Happy Bubble” with actress Han Ji Min, a full music video having been released in August 2009.

-He appeared in Ariel Lin’s “螢火蟲” (Firefly)” music video along with Siwon.

-In October 2009, Donghae played Zhang Li Yin’s love interest in her music video for “晴天雨天 (Moving On).”

-”Extravagant Challenge” (aka “Skip Beat!”) is his newest drama, acting alongside the two other main characters played by Siwon and Ivy Chen.

-Donghae is the ambassador for the worldwide brand, Maxim Colours Contact lens. He was appointed at a press conference in Thailand the year of 2010.

Here is a little video summing up Donghae for those who don’t know much about him:

I really admire the work ethic Donghae has, his loyalty to keeping his father’s dream true, making that dream his own and turning it into something great. He can not only sing, but he can also rap, dance, act, pull off awesome gags, etc! In the future, I’d like to see him be able to use his composing talents even more. His songs are so lovely. With what he is able to do, going solo is something that I would absolutely love, though with his busy schedules, it would not be an easy thing to do. He definitely has it in him to succeed.

Donghae, saranghae!
