It seems October may be turning out to be one of the best months this year for K-Pop fans in New York. Reports about KBS hosting a free concert and about SM Entertainment possibly bringing their family concert, SMTOWN, both to New York in the same month has left K-Pop fans in the city more than ecstatic.
On August 12th, it was reported that KBS will be hosting a free K-Pop concert to promote the globalization of Korean culture. The concert is to be held at Randall’s Island Park in New York on October 9th and currently boasts a line-up that includes top K-Pop stars such as TVXQ, 2PM, SHINee, BEAST, 4minute, SISTAR, and Kim Tae Woo. This line-up may see additional artists as KBS is still in the process of negotiating with other top K-Pop stars.
On August 17th, even more exciting news hit fans in New York as it was reported that SM Entertainment is currently finalizing negotiations for an ‘SMTOWN Live in NYC‘ concert near the third week of October of this year.
However, keep in mind our sources have yet to confirm these events. Also, it should be noted that both reported concert dates lies near Chuseok, the biggest and most important holiday in Korea where family members from near and far gather together for a grand meal and to thank their ancestors for the year’s harvest. As great as both of these events sound, it’s best not to have high hopes until these reports have been confirmed by the direct sources tied to the events.
