In Korean dramas, you will notice that there are many recurring themes. Some have become so common that a Korean drama just wouldn’t be one without these common scenes. However, many of these occurrences are very unrealistic that it becomes annoying to the point where we just want to bang our heads on a table. Lets take a look at 10 annoying occurrences in Korean dramas.

1. Wasting Time During Dangerous Situations
Often in dramas that contains action or some sort of dangerous situation, the characters always waste time doing unnecessary stuff despite their life being on the line. You know what I mean, when the female and male protagonist are running away from evil people but then the guy decides to risk his life for the girl by staying back to buy time for the girl to escape. They then say their farewells, the girl starts crying and says something along the lines of “I love you. You have to come back alive. I can’t live without you,” and they go back and forth like that for a whole FREAKEN FIVE MINUTES. SERIOUSLY? Whenever this happens, it makes me want to somehow crawl in the drama and whack both of their heads with a huge sausage because if they had just continued running instead of wasting five whole minutes, THEY WOULD BOTH HAVE MADE IT OUT ALIVE. Yes, BOTH OF THEM.

2. One Sided Love
In every single romance drama, there’s always that third person trying to butt between two lovers and who no one likes. Since they can’t get the guy/girl, they start doing hateful things that makes all the viewers angry and wanting to shove their face in a pile of cow poop mixed with dog urine. It’s sad, pathetic and makes me want to scream, “DO YOU NOT HAVE ANY PRIDE?”. For the 100th time, the person doesn’t like you so why are you still trying? Just go sob and eat a bucket of ice cream because at least then, I’ll have some sympathy for you when you wake crying about the weight gain.

3. No Power Off Option on Phones
When the characters in dramas don’t want to answer their phones, they can’t just turn it off. Nope, they have to open up the back of their phone and take out their batteries. It happens so often in dramas that I’m beginning to think that Korean phones don’t have a power button. Okay, I don’t really think that but COME ON. There’s a power on/off button for a reason, USE IT. You’ll find it magical, and MUCH easier than taking out your battery.

4. Leaving the Sink Running
Whenever the male leads are feeling depressed or stressed, they seem to have nothing better to do than run into their bathrooms to turn on their sink water, leave it running, and then stare at themselves in the mirror. It always makes me scream in my head, “WHY ARE YOU WASTING WATER?”. Unless you’re doing this while exposing your delicious chocolate abs, then you have no reason to be wasting precious water!

5. Rich Guy, Poor Girl
Another annoying, and common occurrence in dramas is the “rich guy, poor girl.” The rich guy is always a jerk that no one likes in the beginning (or sometimes throughout the whole drama), and the poor girl is always this angel helping the elderly cross the street, or saving cats from trees. This is annoying because it kills my dream about marrying a both nice, and rich guy. I’m joking, that’s not really my dream. (I definitely wouldn’t mind if my future husband is rich though, which girl would?)

6. Poor Characters Aren’t Poor
The dirt poor character in dramas always have nice phones. You’d think that because they’re so poor, they wouldn’t even have a phone but nope, they’ll have the same expensive phone that the rich characters are using. Also, they’re so poor that they can’t afford to wear the same article of clothing twice. If life was like a Korean drama, then I’d sure like to be poor.

7. Passing By Each Other and Not Noticing
Whenever two lovers get separated for some drama like reason, they’ll somehow end up in the same place but will pass by each other without realizing. Or the guy is turning his head all over the place to look for the girl EXCEPT behind him.

8. Misunderstandings
Almost in every romance drama, there’s a misunderstanding between two lovers but it’s left unexplained so the situation gets blown into this huge conflict. JUST WHY DO WE HAVE A MOUTH PEOPLE? Why yes, IT’S TO SPEAK…and to eat of course.

9. Food
Speaking of eating, whenever they go out to a restaurant, they NEVER eat. They just leave the delicious food untouched on the table and make you crave for it. In the rare occasions when they do eat, they stuff their faces like they haven’t eaten in days. And when they order drinks, it seems like orange juice and soju are the only drinks available.

10. Weak Characters
Always in dramas there is that one weak character who doesn’t have the guts to do anything and just stands there to get slapped. WE HAVE HANDS FOR A REASON PEOPLE. It’s to slap people back and yank their ugly hair out.

Despite these annoying occurrences, Korean dramas are addicting and we love them. What are some of your Korean drama pet peeves?
