On the most recent episode of Strong Heart, Super Junior’s Yesung delivered an emotional story wrought with tears about his relationship with his father when he was younger.

Yesung’s relationship with his father when he was younger was littered with strife and conflict. He honestly said, “To be honest, I didn’t like my father when I was a child. He was always strict, and we rarely talked. Our relationship was so distant that I sometimes wondered if I had any attachment towards my father.”

He continued to explain this shocking revelation, “Our relationship is really similar to the relationship Choi Minsoo’s character had with his father in the drama, ‘Sandglass‘. That’s how scary my father was, and because both my parents worked, our time together was scarce. When I came to Seoul to become a singer, they were against it, and they didn’t even like the fact that I listened to music.”

However, it seemed that recounting the memories proved to be too much as Yesung ended up breaking down in tears. He calmed down, though and finished the rest of his story, “Three years ago, I suddenly had 50 missed calls. My father was badly hurt… and he needed a blood transfusion. I left during a recording, and I thought about a lot of things as I went over to my father. Three of his fingers had gotten caught in a machine, and it began to suck my father in. It happened during a night shift so no one could hear him, and he said he was unable to scream. That’s when I kept thinking how frustrating it must’ve been. After that incident, I decided that I should go try to connect with my father first. I thought that our family should have time together. Because of this, I moved my family to Seoul, and I set up a coffee shop for my father.”

Don’t worry, there’s a happy ending to this story! Yesung concluded, “He doesn’t have much balance. I think it’s because he was badly hurt. He can’t close his fingers or use his left hand. Now, my father is like an older brother to me. I never knew how innocent and cute my father was. I’m really happy now.”

Ok, so I teared up reading what he said and I haven’t even watched the video! I think his father deserves the Strong Heart trophy. He was stuck in that machine for some time and it was late, so he was unable to call for help. I mean, it takes a strong will to stay conscious throughout that time. I’m glad Yesung’s on good terms with his father now! And that coffee shop he set up for his parents. That was a sweet gesture.
