So we’ve seen what idols in the traditional hanboks look like. But did you know that there are also modern hanboks? They follow the same design, except they’re more like short dresses with cute short-sleeve tops. And they are PRETTY. Don’t believe me? See for yourself!

4minute’s hanboks remind me of spring dresses. The soft, light colors only help strengthen that notion. The dresses are cute - they have the modern look while still keeping that traditional feel! And I love how all the tops have their own designs. Though Hyuna, why aren’t you wearing the same colored shoes as the rest of your group?

f(x) brings in a different touch and look to the modern hanboks. The designs are different from what you see with 4minute’s hanboks. f(x)’s hanboks retain that spring-like feel, but their dresses have more of a lacy, frilly feel. And if you’re wondering where Amber is, I think she was still in the US when the picture was taken. Not that you would catch her wearing a modern hanbok (because I think it’s mainly the females who wear them).

If memory serves me correctly, this is from when KARA performed Pretty Girl in hanboks. They all share the same dress bottoms, which are beautiful, but their tops are different. I believe Hara and Seungyeon have the same top, Gyuri and Jiyoung have the same top, and Nicole has the different top. And while all the girls look cute in their hanboks, Gyuri exudes a more heavenly, ethereal look. Perfect for her goddess nickname!

SECRET performed Shy Boy in hanboks, I believe, and their hanboks look a bit different from the ones above. In fact, Zinger goes with the black/gold look, which is unique because I haven’t seen such a hanbok before. The other girls wear more pastel-like colored hanboks, but the colors fit them all so well!

SNSD’s modern hanboks are probably the ones that don’t stray too far from the traditional hanboks. If you noticed, their dresses are longer in length than the ones in this post. I also believe it’s because of when the picture was taken (circa 2007-2008) and everyone knows fashion was much different back then. Still, SNSD are graceful young ladies in these hanboks while still making them look chic!

T-ara’s hanboks are perhaps the most uniform here. Actually, it’s a tie between T-ara and KARA (oh hey, they kinda rhyme). Also worn for a performance, T-ara sports the same bottoms while having two different top styles - short and long sleeve. Hmm, actually, I noticed that these hanboks that T-ara wears looks quite similar to the ones that KARA are wearing in theirs. It must be the white tops and pink bottoms! But nonetheless, they look quite beautiful.

It’s hard choosing which female group wore these modern hanboks the best, seeing how they are wearing different hanboks to begin with. One note, of course, and that is that I really want one of those modern hanboks. Cute, chic, and definitely fashionable! Though I’d probably wouldn’t do them justice. I think we need to see more female idols wearing these hanboks!
