Before Super Junior’s Heechul left for the military, he struck up one last duet song with famed and veteran singer, Kim Jang Hoon. The result? A fun, yet random collaboration that led to “Breakups Are So Typical of Me”. It’s not your typical KPOP music video, but that doesn’t matter as long as they’re having fun, right?

The music video. The music video is more of making-of, casual scenes music video than it is a dance or story music video. For some reason, these types of music videos I tend to enjoy more. Perhaps it’s because it seems more candid because it’s in a more natural setting. We get to see Kim Jang Hoon and Heechul interacting in the studio and at the barber where Heechul gets his hair cut (supposedly - that’s what it looked like to me). They joke around, record the music, goof about.

The dance/choreography. None found! Unless you count the Super Junior-inspired moves. Heh.

The song. This is probably one of the most random collaborations ever. But in a way, I enjoyed this. We get to hear Heechul sing more and boy, does he sing nicely. Their voices blend pretty well, in my opinion and though it talks about breakups and the like, it’s quite a cheerful song that has you smiling. Least, I was smiling when I was listening and watching the MV.

Thoughts. I thoroughly enjoyed this song. I’m glad that Kim Jang Hoon liked Heechul’s voice enough to make this song a duet. I did like how they incorporated “Sorry Sorry” and “Simple” into the song. That was quite clever. And I do suppose that because the lyrics speak of breakups (but laughing about them), the song would have a cheerful ring. One of my favorite parts has to be when the two are sitting in front of the white wall. They look just so disinterested. Heh.

Overall Rating. 4.8/5
